For Remote Monitoring of Compatible Solar Inverters

1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the PLUG-WIFI Wireless Device. This module enables remote monitoring of compatible 3.2kw/3.5kw/5kw/5.5kw solar inverters via an RS232 connection and a dedicated mobile application. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use.

2. Safety Information

  • Ensure the solar inverter is powered off before connecting or disconnecting the WiFi module.
  • Only use the provided RS232 cable for connection.
  • Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures, moisture, or direct sunlight.
  • This device is designed for use with specific solar inverters. Using it with incompatible equipment may cause damage or malfunction.

3. Installation and Initial Setup

3.1 Hardware Installation

  1. Identify the Interface: Find the corresponding interface code on the label of the WiFi Plug and locate the matching interface on your inverter. Refer to the table below for interface codes.
  2. Connect the Cable:
    Method 1: Connect the 4PIN power cable of the WiFi Plug to the inverter. Fasten the WiFi Plug to the inverter with the screw.
    Method 2: Connect the 2-PIN green interface of the WiFi Plug to the RS-485 terminal of the inverter. Connect the 4PIN power cable of the WiFi Plug to the inverter. Fasten the WiFi Plug to the inverter with the screw.
  3. Align and Secure: Align the 4-hole aviation plug of the WiFi Plug with the inverter and plug it in. Tighten the nut of the WiFi Plug to the inverter.
  4. Connect RJ-45: Align the RJ-45 crystal head of the WiFi Plug with the inverter and plug it in firmly. Fasten the WiFi Plug to the inverter with the screw.

3.2 Wireless Router Connection (App Setup)

  1. Download the App: Scan the QR Code provided in the image below to download the SmartESS app for iOS or Android.
  2. Connect WiFi Datalogger: Connect your phone to the same WiFi network as the datalogger. Open the SmartESS app and tap the 'WiFi Config' button to enter the configuration page.
  3. Network Setting: According to the prompts, type in the information for which the network setting is required. If the WiFi Plug is restarted, reconnect the WiFi which is connected by step 2.1.

4. Operation

4.1 App Account Creation and Datalogger Addition

  1. Create Account: Open the SmartESS app, tap the 'Register' button to enter the registration page. According to the prompts, type in the required information to create an account.
  2. Add Datalogger: Log in to your account. Tap the '+' button on the top-right corner of the Datalogger page. Scan the PN on the WiFi Plug, or manually enter it. According to the prompts, type in the information to finish adding the datalogger.

4.2 Monitoring and Data Analysis

Once the datalogger is successfully added and connected, you can monitor your solar inverter's performance, view data charts, analyze parameters, and adjust settings through the SmartESS app.

5. Maintenance

  • Keep the WiFi module clean and free from dust.
  • Ensure the connections are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Regularly check for app updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.
  • If the device is not functioning correctly, refer to the troubleshooting section or contact support.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your WiFi module, consider the following:

  • No Connection: Verify that the WiFi module is correctly connected to the inverter's RS232 port and that the inverter is powered on. Check your router's WiFi signal strength.
  • App Not Displaying Data: Ensure your mobile device is connected to the internet and that the SmartESS app is logged in to the correct account. Confirm the datalogger was added successfully in the app.
  • Incorrect Data: Restart the inverter and the WiFi module. If the issue persists, check the inverter's own display for data consistency.

  • Compatibility Check: This WiFi module is specifically designed for use with the seller's own brand of 3.2kw/3.5kw/5kw/5.5kw solar inverters. It may not be compatible with other brands or models, such as Suntaic Hero or Vishonet converters. Always confirm compatibility before purchase and installation.
  • Stable WiFi: Ensure the WiFi network used for the datalogger has a stable connection to prevent interruptions in monitoring.
