2.3 Propeller Installation

The drone comes with 24 spare propellers. Ensure correct propeller installation for stable flight.

  1. Identify the 'A' and 'B' marked propellers. These correspond to the 'A' and 'B' markings on the drone's motor arms.
  2. Attach the 'A' propellers to the motor shafts marked 'A' and 'B' propellers to the motor shafts marked 'B'.
  3. Ensure the propellers are firmly attached and rotate freely without obstruction. Use the provided screwdriver if screws are required for attachment.

3. Operation

3.1 Pre-Flight Checklist

  • Ensure the drone battery and remote controller batteries are fully charged.
  • Check that all propellers are correctly installed and free from damage.
  • Verify that the drone's arms are fully unfolded and locked into position.
  • Choose an open, clear area for flight, away from people, animals, and obstacles.
  • Ensure GPS signal is strong before takeoff for stable flight (indicated by the drone's status lights).

3.2 Basic Controls (Remote Controller)

Familiarize yourself with the remote controller layout and functions:

  • Left Stick (Throttle/Yaw): Up/Down controls altitude; Left/Right controls rotation (yaw).
  • Right Stick (Forward/Backward/Left/Right): Up/Down controls forward/backward movement; Left/Right controls sideward movement (strafe).
  • One-Key Takeoff/Landing Button: Initiates automatic takeoff or landing.
  • GPS Mode Switch: Toggles GPS positioning mode for stable hovering.
  • Return-to-Home (RTH) Button: Commands the drone to return to its takeoff point.
  • Speed Switch: Adjusts flight speed (low/medium/high).

3.3 Flight Procedure

  1. Power On: Turn on the remote controller, then power on the drone.
  2. Pairing: The drone and remote controller should automatically pair. Wait for the indicator lights to confirm successful pairing.
  3. Calibration: Perform gyroscope and compass calibration as instructed by the drone's manual (usually involves specific stick movements or button presses). This is crucial for stable flight.
  4. GPS Signal Acquisition: Wait for the drone to acquire sufficient GPS satellites. The drone's status lights will indicate when GPS is ready (e.g., solid green lights).
  5. Takeoff: Press the One-Key Takeoff button or slowly push the left stick up to lift off.
  6. Flight: Use the control sticks to maneuver the drone.
  7. Landing: Press the One-Key Landing button or slowly pull the left stick down to land.
  8. Power Off: Power off the drone first, then the remote controller.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the drone's body with a soft, dry cloth after each flight.
  • Remove any dust or debris from the motors and propellers.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or solvents that could damage the drone's components.

4.2 Battery Care

  • Do not overcharge or over-discharge the Li-ion battery.
  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • If storing for extended periods, charge the battery to approximately 50-60% capacity.
  • Inspect batteries regularly for any signs of swelling or damage. Discontinue use immediately if damage is observed.

4.3 Propeller Inspection and Replacement

  • Before each flight, inspect all propellers for cracks, bends, or chips.
  • Damaged propellers can cause unstable flight and should be replaced immediately.
  • Use only original JJRC X40 Pro spare propellers for replacement.
  • Refer to section 2.3 for propeller installation instructions.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Drone does not power on: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly installed.
  • Drone does not respond to remote controller: Ensure both devices are powered on and successfully paired. Re-pair if necessary.
  • Unstable flight/Drifting: Perform gyroscope and compass calibration. Check for damaged propellers. Ensure flight is in an open area with strong GPS signal.
  • GPS signal weak or lost: Move to an open outdoor area away from tall buildings or interference.
  • Drone crashes frequently: Practice basic controls in a safe, open environment. Check for propeller damage or motor issues.
