2. Setup

2.1 Remote Control Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery cover on the back of the remote controller by sliding it in the direction of the arrow.
  2. Insert 3 x 1.5V 'AA' batteries according to the polarity markings (+/-) inside the battery compartment. (Batteries are not included and should not mix old and new or different types of batteries).
  3. Close the battery cover.

2.2 Aircraft Battery Charging

  1. Insert the USB charging cable into a computer's USB port or another compatible USB charger. The indicator light on the charger will illuminate.
  2. Remove the battery from the aircraft.
  3. Connect the battery plug to the socket on the USB charger.
  4. The indicator light will be on during charging and will turn off once the battery is fully charged.

Warning: The USB charging cable input voltage and current must not exceed DC4.7-5.3V and 0.5-2A. Do not use a three-load adapter, as this may damage the USB charging cable and battery.

Charging time is approximately 120 minutes. The flight time is approximately 23 minutes.

2.3 Aircraft Battery Installation

Insert the charged battery into the designated battery compartment on the drone until it clicks securely into place.

2.4 Pairing the Drone and Remote Control

  1. Turn on the switch of the aircraft.
  2. Turn on the switch of the remote controller.
  3. Move the left joystick (throttle) up and then pull it down to its lowest position.
  4. A beeping sound will be heard, and the drone's lights will become solid, indicating successful frequency alignment (pairing).

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Remote Control Layout

Remote Control Guide.
  • Left Joystick: Controls throttle (up/down) and left/right rotation.
  • Right Joystick: Controls forward/backward movement and left/right side flight.
  • One-Key Takeoff/Landing Button: Initiates automatic takeoff or landing. Long press for emergency stop.
  • Headless Mode Button: Activates/deactivates headless mode. Long press to return to home.
  • Speed Adjustment Button: Toggles between low (30%) and high (100%) speed modes.
  • Photo/Video Button: Captures photos or starts/stops video recording.
  • Roll Button: Activates 360-degree roll mode.
  • Fine-tuning Buttons: Adjust for drift in forward/backward, left/right, and rotation.

3.2 One-Key Takeoff and Landing

After successful pairing, press the 'One-Key Takeoff' button to make the drone automatically ascend and hover at a stable altitude. To land, press the 'One-Key Landing' button, and the drone will descend and land automatically. For an emergency stop, long-press the 'One-Key Landing' button.

3.3 Fine-Tuning

If the aircraft drifts (left/right, forward/backward, or rotates) during flight, use the corresponding fine-tuning buttons on the remote control to adjust. For example, if the drone drifts forward, press the 'backward fine-tuning' button to correct its position.

3.4 Speed Adjustment

The X228 drone offers two speed modes: low (30% sensitivity) and high (100% sensitivity). Press the 'Speed Adjustment' button to switch between modes. The remote control will beep once for low speed and twice for high speed. Higher sensitivity means faster drone response.

3.5 360° Roll Mode

To perform a 360-degree roll:

  1. Ensure the drone is at least 5 meters above the ground. It's best to perform this during ascent to maintain altitude.
  2. Press the 'Roll' button (Mode Conversion).
  3. Immediately push the right joystick to its maximum in the desired direction (forward, backward, left, or right).
  4. The drone will perform a 360-degree flip. Return the joystick to the middle position after the flip.
  5. To exit roll mode without performing a flip, press the 'Roll' button again.

3.6 Headless Mode

Headless mode simplifies flight control by eliminating the need to orient the drone. When activated, the drone's 'forward' direction will always be the direction it was facing when it took off, regardless of its current orientation.

  1. Ensure the drone's head is facing forward during pairing for correct headless mode orientation.
  2. Press the 'Headless Mode' button to activate. The drone will lock its forward direction to its takeoff orientation.
  3. Press the 'Headless Mode' button again to exit.

Warning: When using headless mode, if the drone has moved far away and you are unsure of its orientation, activating headless mode allows you to control it relative to your position without needing to know the drone's front.

7. User Tips

  • Battery Life: The drone offers approximately 23 minutes of flight time on a full charge. Consider purchasing additional batteries for extended flight sessions.
  • Outdoor Use: For optimal performance and safety, especially when learning, choose open areas with minimal wind and few obstacles.
  • Headless Mode for Beginners: If you are new to drone flying, headless mode can greatly simplify control by removing the need to constantly track the drone's orientation.
  • VR Experience: When using VR glasses, ensure you are in a safe, open environment to avoid collisions, as your peripheral vision will be limited.
