Thermalright TL-UB24 Computer Case Fan

Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

The Thermalright TL-UB24 is a high-performance 2-in-1 ARGB 240mm computer case fan designed for efficient cooling and aesthetic enhancement of your PC system. Featuring a unique one-line interconnect series structure, it simplifies wiring and supports both PWM for precise speed control and 5V 3-pin ARGB for customizable lighting effects. This manual provides detailed instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your fan.

2. Safety Information

  • Always disconnect power from your computer before installing or performing maintenance on any internal components.
  • Handle the fan by its frame to avoid damaging the blades or wiring.
  • Ensure proper grounding to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage to sensitive components.
  • Keep the fan away from liquids and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not attempt to modify the fan or its cables, as this may void the warranty and pose a safety risk.

3. Package Contents

Please check the package for the following items:

  • Thermalright TL-UB24 2-in-1 ARGB 240mm Fan
  • Mounting Screws
  • User Manual (this document)

4. Installation Guide

4.1 Physical Installation

  1. Identify the desired mounting location in your PC case or on your radiator. The TL-UB24 is suitable for both case and radiator mounting.
  2. Align the fan with the screw holes. Ensure the fan is oriented correctly for desired airflow (intake or exhaust).
  3. Secure the fan using the provided mounting screws. Do not overtighten.

4.2 Wiring Connections

The TL-UB24 features a simplified one-line interconnect structure for power and ARGB control.

  1. PWM Connection: Connect the 4-pin PWM connector from the fan to an available 4-pin fan header on your motherboard. This allows for automatic fan speed control based on system temperature.
  2. ARGB Connection: Connect the 5V 3-pin ARGB connector from the fan to an available 5V 3-pin ARGB header on your motherboard. This enables synchronization of lighting effects with your motherboard's software.

Important ARGB Note: When using motherboard ARGB synchronization, there is a power limit to the motherboard ARGB synchronization interface. In motherboard synchronization mode, no more than 6 ARGB devices can be connected in series on a single motherboard header. Refer to your motherboard's user guide for specific details and compatible software.

Fan Hub Recommendation: For systems with multiple fans or limited motherboard headers, it is recommended to use a SATA-powered fan hub for stable power delivery and organized cable management. Thermalright offers HUB X8 (supports 8 fans) and HUB X12 (supports 12 fans) options.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Fan Speed Control (PWM)

The TL-UB24 fan supports Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), allowing your motherboard to dynamically adjust fan speed based on CPU or system temperatures. This ensures optimal cooling performance while minimizing noise when not under heavy load.

  • Access your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings or use compatible software (e.g., ASUS AI Suite, Gigabyte SIV) to configure fan curves and control fan speed.
  • You can set custom fan profiles to balance between cooling performance and noise levels according to your preferences.

5.2 ARGB Lighting Control

The fan's Addressable RGB (ARGB) lighting can be controlled via your motherboard's ARGB software (e.g., ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, ASRock Polychrome Sync). Ensure your motherboard has a 5V 3-pin ARGB header for compatibility.

  • Install the appropriate ARGB control software provided by your motherboard manufacturer.
  • Use the software to customize lighting effects, colors, and synchronization with other ARGB components in your system.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your fan.

  • Dust Cleaning: Periodically clean dust from the fan blades and frame using compressed air or a soft brush. Ensure the fan is powered off and disconnected before cleaning.
  • Inspection: Check for any obstructions around the fan blades or unusual noises during operation.
  • Cable Management: Ensure cables are neatly routed and not interfering with fan operation or airflow.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Fan Not Spinning

  • Check if the 4-pin PWM connector is securely plugged into the motherboard fan header.
  • Verify that the fan header is enabled in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings.
  • Ensure your power supply is providing adequate power to the system.
  • If using a fan hub, ensure the hub is properly powered (e.g., via SATA power) and connected to the motherboard.

7.2 ARGB Lighting Not Working

  • Confirm the 5V 3-pin ARGB connector is correctly plugged into a compatible ARGB header on your motherboard. Note: This is different from a 12V 4-pin RGB header.
  • Check your motherboard's ARGB control software to ensure lighting effects are enabled and configured.
  • Verify that you have not exceeded the maximum number of ARGB devices (6) connected in series to a single motherboard header.
  • Ensure all ARGB connections are secure.

7.3 Excessive Noise

  • Check for any cables or obstructions hitting the fan blades.
  • Ensure the fan is securely mounted and not vibrating against the case.
  • Adjust fan speed settings in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI or software to a lower RPM if noise is a concern and temperatures allow.
  • Clean any dust buildup on the fan blades.

9. User Tips

  • For optimal cooling, consider the airflow direction. Generally, front and bottom fans are intake, while rear and top fans are exhaust.
  • When installing multiple fans, ensure consistent airflow direction to create a positive or negative pressure system, which can improve cooling efficiency and dust management.
  • Experiment with different fan curve settings in your motherboard software to find the best balance between cooling performance and acoustic comfort for your specific system and usage.
  • If you experience flickering or inconsistent ARGB lighting, double-check all connections and ensure your motherboard's ARGB header is not overloaded.
