4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Install Battery: Align the battery pack with the compartment on the back of the walkie-talkie and push it firmly until it clicks into place.
  2. Charge Battery: Connect the provided Type-C USB charging cable to the walkie-talkie's Type-C port and plug the other end into a compatible USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, power bank, computer USB port). The charging indicator will show the charging status. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.

4.2 Power On/Off

  • Power On: Press and hold the Power button until the device powers on.
  • Power Off: Press and hold the Power button until the device powers off.

4.3 Channel and Privacy Code Selection

The AI-168 supports 22 FRS channels and 16 PMR channels, along with 155 privacy codes. Refer to the device's controls for selecting your desired channel and privacy code. Both walkie-talkies must be on the same channel and privacy code to communicate.

4.4 Wireless Copy Frequency

The AI-168 features a wireless copy frequency function, allowing you to easily synchronize channels and settings between two units. Consult the device's specific button combinations or menu options to activate and utilize this feature for quick setup with other compatible walkie-talkies.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Communication

  1. Ensure both walkie-talkies are powered on and set to the same channel and privacy code.
  2. To transmit, press and hold the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  3. Release the PTT button to listen for a response.

5.2 VOX Hands-free Operation

The Voice Operated Exchange (VOX) feature allows for hands-free communication. When activated, the walkie-talkie will automatically transmit when it detects your voice.

  • Activation: Refer to your device's menu or button sequence to enable VOX.
  • Sensitivity Levels: The AI-168 offers 3 sensitivity levels. Adjust the sensitivity to prevent accidental transmissions or missed voice activations.

5.3 NOAA Weather Alert

The NOAA Weather Alert function provides real-time weather updates and alerts for your safety during outdoor activities.

  • Scan Channels: The device can scan 12 NOAA Weather channels.
  • Activate Alert: Enable the weather alarm function. The walkie-talkie will emit an alarm if there is a risk of severe weather, giving you time to react.

5.4 Keypad Lock

To prevent accidental changes to your settings, activate the Keypad Lock feature. Consult your device's controls for locking and unlocking the keypad.

5.5 Headset Usage

The AI-168 includes a 2Pin Kenwood headset jack for private listening and hands-free communication. Simply plug in a compatible headset.
