4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Watering Modes

The RainPoint water timer offers three distinct irrigation modes:

  • **Normal Irrigation**: Continuous one-time watering. Set a start time and duration.
  • **Interval Irrigation**: Ideal for cooling, dust suppression, or water-saving. This mode allows for short bursts of watering with intervals in between.
  • **Cycle & Soak**: Designed for plant soaking, this mode splits the total watering time into multiple short cycles with soak durations in between to allow water to penetrate the soil effectively and prevent runoff.

4.2. Irrigation Programming

You can program your watering schedule with various frequencies:

  • **Start Time**: Set the desired time for watering to begin.
  • **Water Duration**: Specify how long each watering session should last (e.g., 1 minute to 12 hours).
  • **Watering Frequencies**: Choose from Everyday, Odd Days, Even Days, Interval, or Custom schedules.

4.3. Smart Plan Recommendation

The app can provide water-efficient schedules based on your plant and soil profile, helping you conserve water and ensure optimal plant health.

4.4. Manual Watering

You have two options for manual watering:

  • **Press Button**: Press a button on the water timer itself. The default manual watering duration is 10 minutes.
  • **App Control**: Use the "RainPoint Home" app to initiate manual watering.

NOTE:

  • The valves will work one by one. Please do not set repetitive working times for different zones simultaneously.
  • If the WiFi signal drops, you can still manually water for 10 minutes by long-pressing the timer button.

4.6. Seasonal Adjustment

Customize the watering percentage from 10% to 200% to match the irrigation needs of different seasons. Ensure that the adjusted duration of each irrigation plan does not exceed the repetition interval or 24 hours. If the adjusted working time is less than one minute, it is one minute.

4.7. Create Smart Scene

The app allows you to create smart scenes where watering adjusts automatically according to weather conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity, sunrise/sunset).

5. Maintenance

  • **Filter Cleaning**: Regularly check and clean the filters to prevent blockages and ensure consistent water flow.
  • **Battery Replacement**: The app will send low battery warnings via SMS or email. Replace the 4xAA alkaline batteries promptly to avoid interruption of your watering schedule.
  • **Waterproof Rating**: The timer has an IPX4 waterproof rating, meaning it is resistant to splashing water. Avoid submerging the device in water.
  • **Teflon Tape**: Ensure Teflon tape is properly applied to all threaded connections to prevent leaks.
  • **Winterization**: In freezing conditions, disconnect the timer from the faucet and store it indoors to prevent damage from ice expansion.

6. Troubleshooting

  • **Connectivity Issues**: If the timer or gateway loses connection, ensure they are within range of each other and the 2.4GHz WiFi router. Try restarting the gateway and re-pairing if necessary.
  • **Pairing Failure**: Double-check that your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network during the pairing process. Ensure you follow the button press sequences on the gateway and timer as instructed in the app.
  • **No Water Flow**: Verify that the faucet is fully open and that the batteries in the timer are not depleted. Check filters for clogs.
  • **Valves Not Working as Expected**: Remember that the valves operate one by one. Ensure your watering schedules do not have repetitive working times for multiple zones that could conflict.
  • **Low Battery Alerts**: If you receive a low battery alert, replace all 4 AA batteries with new alkaline batteries immediately.
