1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the YIHUA 852D+ Soldering and Hot Air Rework Station. This 2-in-1 station is designed for precision work in electronics, offering both hot air desoldering and traditional soldering capabilities. Please read this manual carefully before operation and keep it for future reference.

The YIHUA 852D+ is suitable for a variety of applications, including:

• Soldering and desoldering of various components such as SOIC, CHIP, QFP, PLCC, BGA, and SMD, with particular suitability for FFC/FPC rework.
• Heat shrinking, drying, paint removal, adhesive removal, defrosting, pre-heating, and soldering wire glues.

4. Setup

Before initial use, ensure the unit is properly prepared.

Initial Preparation (Important!)

Attention: Before use, remove the two screws at the bottom of the machine. These screws secure the air pump during transport and must be removed to prevent damage during operation.

Hot Air Rework Station Setup

1. Place the rework station on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
2. Install the hot air gun holder on the left side of the station and place the hot air gun into the holder.
3. Attach the required nozzle to the hot air gun. Larger diameter nozzles are generally recommended for most tasks.
4. Connect the station's power cord to an appropriate electrical outlet.

Soldering Station Setup

1. Connect the soldering iron to the designated receptacle on the front panel.
2. Place the soldering iron into its holder.

5. Operation

Hot Air Rework Station Operation

1. Turn ON the master power switch at the rear of the station.
2. Turn ON the Hot Air Rework Station power switch (10) on the front panel. The hot air temperature display (1) will show "---" indicating standby mode.
3. Adjust the Hot Air Temperature Adjustment Knob (11) to set the desired temperature (100-500°C).
4. Adjust the Airflow Adjustment Knob (7) to set the desired air volume (Levels 1-8).
5. Pick up the hot air gun from its holder. The hot air gun will enter standard operation mode, and the operation indicator light (12) will turn ON. It will stay ON during heating and blink rapidly once the temperature is stabilized.
6. Once the operation is complete, place the hot air gun back into its holder. The unit will automatically cut power to the heating element and cool down. The operation indicator light will turn OFF. When the temperature drops below 100°C (212°F), the display will show "---".
7. At this point, you can turn OFF the Hot Air Rework Station power switch. For extended periods of non-use, turn off the master power switch and disconnect the power plug.

Soldering Station Operation

1. Turn ON the master power switch at the rear of the station.
2. Turn ON the Soldering Station power switch (9) on the front panel. The soldering iron's heating element will begin heating, and its operation indicator light (6) will turn ON. It will stay ON during heating and blink rapidly once the temperature is stabilized.
3. Adjust the Soldering Station Temperature Adjustment Knob (5) to set the desired temperature (100-500°C).

4. First Use Caution:

   Upon the first use of the soldering iron, set the temperature to 250°C (482°F). When the iron is just hot enough to melt solder, coat the soldering iron tip with a layer of rosin core solder. Then, increase the temperature to your desired value.

5. Once the operation is complete, clean the soldering iron tip with a damp sponge or metal wool ball. Tin the tip with a new layer of solder, then place the soldering iron back into its holder.
6. For extended periods of non-use, turn off the master power switch and disconnect the power plug.

6. Maintenance and Precautions

Hot Air Rework Station Maintenance

• Keep the air outlet clear and free of blockages at all times.
• Nozzle installation: Hot air nozzles MUST be installed ONLY when the steel pipe and nozzles have cooled. Install the nozzle correctly. Do NOT install the nozzle with brute force, pull the edge of the nozzle with tweezers, or over-tighten the screws.
• When using nozzles smaller than the stock nozzles, you MUST use the maximum fan speed with a relatively lower temperature setting. Complete this operation in the shortest possible duration to prevent damaging the hot air gun.
• Maintain a minimum distance of 2mm between the component and the hot air gun's air outlet.
• Do NOT allow the hot air to come in direct contact with facial parts. Initial use may emit white fumes, which will dissipate shortly.

Soldering Station Maintenance

• Cleaning Oxidized Tips:

  If a layer of oxidation forms on the surface of the soldering iron tip, preventing proper melting and tinning, do not blindly increase the temperature. Instead, use a metal wool ball to remove the oxidation:

  1. Set the temperature to 300°C (572°F).
  2. Once the temperature stabilizes, gently rub the soldering iron tip inside the metal wool ball.
  3. When the oxidation is partially removed, continue applying solder while rubbing until the soldering tip is completely coated with solder. If the tip is severely oxidized, replace it.
• Do NOT use metal files to remove oxidation from the soldering iron tip. If the tip deforms or rusts, replace it.
• Do NOT apply excessive force on the soldering iron tip when soldering, as this can damage the tip and not improve heat transfer.
• When placing the soldering iron back in the holder to idle after high-temperature operation, adjust the temperature to 250°C (482°F) or below. Idling at high temperatures accelerates heating element aging and shortens tip lifespan.
• After every operation, always clean the soldering iron tip and tin it with a layer of solder to prevent oxidation.

7. Troubleshooting

Error Code: "S-E"

This indicates that the station's sensor module is faulty. To resolve this, you need to replace the heating element (which includes the sensor modules). Alternatively, ensure the soldering iron is properly connected. Turn OFF the station, connect the soldering iron, and then turn ON the station again.

Heating Element Replacement

When replacing the heating element, take note of the original connecting order and colors of the wires, which MUST NOT be connected incorrectly.

10. User Tips

• Pre-tinning Tips: Always tin new soldering iron tips and re-tin after cleaning to prolong their life and improve heat transfer.
• Nozzle Selection: For hot air rework, choose the largest possible nozzle that fits the component to ensure even heating and prevent damage.
• Temperature Calibration: While the unit has precise temperature control, occasional verification with an external thermometer can ensure accuracy for critical tasks.
