4. Setup

The Ancel JP700 is designed for ease of use with a simple plug-and-play setup. No batteries are required as it draws power directly from the vehicle's OBD-II port.

4.1 Connecting to Your Vehicle

  1. Locate the 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) in your vehicle. This port is typically found under the dashboard on the driver's side.
  2. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is in the OFF position.
  3. Plug the Ancel JP700's OBD-II connector firmly into the vehicle's DLC.
  4. Turn the vehicle's ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine). The scanner will automatically power on and display the main menu.

5.1 Selecting Vehicle Type

  • Select Brand (JOBD Functions): Choose this option for Japanese vehicles (e.g., Toyota, Honda, Daihatsu, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Nissan, Suzuki, Subaru) that support the JOBD protocol. This mode allows you to Read and Erase codes specific to these vehicles.
  • OBDII System (OBDII & EOBD Functions): Select this for most other vehicles (1996 US-Based, 2000 EU-Based, and newer Asian cars) that support standard OBDII/EOBD protocols. This mode offers a broader range of diagnostic functions.

5.2 Diagnostic Functions (OBDII System)

Once 'OBDII System' is selected, you will access the Diagnostic Menu with the following options:

  • Read Codes: Retrieves Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the vehicle's computer. These codes indicate specific issues detected by the vehicle's onboard diagnostic system.
  • Erase Codes: Clears DTCs from the vehicle's computer and turns off the Check Engine Light (MIL). This should only be done after the underlying issue has been resolved.
  • I/M Readiness: Checks the status of various emission-related systems to determine if they are operating properly and ready for an inspection.
  • Data Stream: Displays real-time data parameters from the vehicle's sensors and modules. This can include engine RPM, vehicle speed, oxygen sensor readings, and more, useful for advanced troubleshooting.
  • Freeze Frame: Captures a snapshot of critical vehicle operating conditions at the moment a DTC was set. This data can help identify the conditions under which the fault occurred.
  • Vehicle Information: Retrieves the vehicle's identification number (VIN), calibration ID (CID), and calibration verification number (CVN).

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Interpreting Error Codes

When the scanner reads a fault code, it will display the DTC (e.g., P0401) along with a brief description. This description provides an initial indication of the problem. Further research may be required to understand the root cause and appropriate repair steps.

7.2 Common Issues and Solutions

  • Scanner does not power on: Ensure the OBD-II connector is securely plugged into the vehicle's DLC and the ignition is in the ON position. Check the vehicle's fuse for the OBD-II port if the issue persists.
  • Communication error: Verify the vehicle's ignition is ON. Ensure the scanner's cable is not damaged. Some older or non-standard vehicles may have compatibility issues.
  • Check Engine Light remains on after clearing codes: This indicates that the underlying fault has not been resolved, or a new fault has occurred. Address the mechanical issue before attempting to clear codes again.

7.3 Vehicle Compatibility

While the Ancel JP700 supports a broad range of vehicles, some specific models, particularly older Japanese cars or those with non-standard configurations (e.g., converted steering wheels), may not be fully compatible with all functions or protocols. Always verify your vehicle's compatibility if you encounter issues.

Known Incompatible Vehicles (without OBD2, so scanner may not work):

  • For Nissan: Blyberd Silf 2001, Almera Tino 2002, Ad 2000 (2.2cc, diesel), Xtrail 2002 (diesel 2.2)
  • For Mitsubishi: Pajero 3 (2003), Pajero 2000, Galant 2001, Space 2000, Lancer Cedia Wagon/1.8 GDI/2001, Pajero 2004 (3.5 liter)
  • For Toyota: Avensis D4d 2001, Ipsum 2003, Vitz 2001, Verso 2001, Corolla 2001

8. User Tips

  • Check Compatibility First: If you have an older Japanese vehicle or a modified one (e.g., converted steering wheel), it's advisable to confirm compatibility with the seller or manufacturer before use, especially for models around the year 2000.
  • Keep it Handy: The compact size of the JP700 makes it convenient to store in your glove box, ensuring it's always available when a 'Check Engine' light appears.
  • Don't Just Clear Codes: While the scanner can clear fault codes, always investigate the underlying cause of the code before clearing it. Clearing codes without addressing the issue will likely result in the light reappearing.

9. Warranty and Support

The Ancel JP700 comes with a 3-year warranty and lifetime technical support. For any issues or questions regarding the product, please contact ANCEL Official Store customer service.
