6. Noise Attenuation

This product has been tested to European Safety Standard EN352-1:2020 and ANSI S3.19-1974 standard for hearing protectors. It provides a Single Number Rating (SNR) of 28 dB and a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 23 dB.

ANSI S3.19-1974 (NRR)

The level of noise entering a person's ear, when PROHEAR EM016 earmuffs are worn as directed, is closely approximated by the difference between the A-weighted environmental noise level and the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR). Improper fit of this device will reduce its effectiveness in attenuating noise.

ANSI S3.19-1974 Table (NRR)
Frequency, HZ125250500100020003150400063008000NRRCSA Class

Standard Deviation3.13.92.12.82.62.92.94.23.1

Example:

  1. The surrounding noise level measured at the ear is 100 dB.
  2. The NRR of PROHEAR EM016 is 23 dB.
  3. The noise level entering the ear is approximately equal to 77 dB.

Please note that the NRR is based on the attenuation of continuous noise and may not be an accurate indicator of the protection attainable against impulsive noise, such as gunfire.

  • Wear and Tear: Earmuffs and ear cushions can deteriorate over time. Regularly inspect them for cracks or leaks. Replace ear cushions if they show signs of significant wear.
  • Hygiene Covers: Be aware that the fitting of hygiene covers to the cushions may affect the acoustic performance of the earmuffs.

10. User Tips

  • For optimal comfort and protection, always ensure the headband is adjusted to fit snugly without excessive pressure.
  • The low-profile design is particularly beneficial for shooters, allowing for an unobstructed view when aiming.
  • Take advantage of the compact folding design for easy storage and transport, making it convenient to carry in a backpack or range bag.
  • Regularly check the ear cushions for wear and tear to maintain the highest level of noise reduction.
