1. Introduction and Overview
The Silverflo 857D+ Hot Air Rework Station is a versatile tool designed for a wide range of electronic repair and assembly tasks. It is particularly suitable for desoldering and soldering operations on various surface-mount components (SMD) such as SOIC, CHIP, QFP, PLCC, BGA, and especially in-line sockets. Beyond soldering, this station can also be used for heat shrinking, drying, paint removal, glue removal, defrosting, pre-heating, and other applications requiring controlled hot air.
2. Safety Information
- Burn Hazard: DO NOT allow the hot air to come in direct contact with facial parts or skin, as there is a significant danger of burn injuries.
- Clear Air Outlet: Always ensure the air outlet is clear and free of any blockages to prevent overheating and damage to the unit.
- Nozzle Handling: Hot air gun nozzles MUST be installed or removed ONLY when both the steel pipe and the nozzle have completely cooled down. Install the nozzle correctly without using brute force. Avoid pulling the edge of the nozzle with tweezers or over-tightening the screws.
- Working Distance: Maintain a minimum distance of 2mm between the object being worked on and the hot air gun's air outlet.
- Initial Use Fumes: Upon the first use, the hot air gun may emit white fumes. This is normal and the white fume will dissipate shortly.

5. Setup Instructions
- Crucial First Step - Remove Locking Bolt: Before using the station, you MUST remove the red-marked locking bolt located at the bottom of the unit. Failure to remove this bolt before operation will result in serious consequences.

Figure 2: Removing the locking bolt before first use.
- Positioning: Place the rework station on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Install the hot air gun holder onto the left side of the station and place the hot air gun in its holder.
- Nozzle Attachment: Select the appropriate nozzle for your task (larger diameter nozzles are generally recommended for better airflow). Ensure the hot air gun is cool before attaching or detaching nozzles. Connect the station's power cord to an electrical outlet matching the unit's voltage requirements (e.g., 120V US, 220V EU, 230V UK, 240V AU).
6. Operation Guide
Video 1: Demonstration of Silverflo 857D+ Hot Air Rework Station features and operation.
- Power On: Turn ON the power switch. The hot air gun will enter standby mode.
- Setting Temperature and Airflow: Adjust the desired temperature using the 'TEMP CONTROL' knob (100-450℃) and the airflow using the 'AIR CONTROL' knob. The LED digital display will show the current temperature. The unit features PID program temperature control for accurate and stable temperature.
- Initiating Operation: Pick up the hot air gun from its holder. The gun will automatically exit standby mode and begin heating to the set temperature.
- Operation Indicator: The operation indicator light will stay ON while the hot air gun is heating up. Once the temperature stabilizes, it will blink rapidly.
- Performing Rework: Once the temperature is stable, proceed with your desoldering, soldering, or heat shrinking task. The 600W high power ensures rapid heating and stable airflow.

- Standby and Cool Down: When operation is complete, place the hot air gun back into its holder. The heating power to the gun will automatically cut off, and the operation indicator light will turn OFF. The hot air gun will continue to blow air without heating, allowing the heating element to cool down.
- Power Off: Once the temperature cools to below 100°C (212°F), the station will enter standby mode. At this point, you can turn OFF the main power switch. If the station will not be used for an extended period, disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
7. Maintenance
- Air Outlet Maintenance: Regularly check and ensure the air outlet of the hot air gun is clear and free from any obstructions.
- Nozzle Care: Always allow the hot air gun's steel pipe and nozzles to cool completely before attempting to change or clean nozzles. Avoid using excessive force or tools that could damage the nozzles or the gun.
- Small Nozzle Usage: When using nozzles smaller than the standard ones, it is crucial to set the air volume to maximum and use a relatively lower temperature. Operate for the shortest possible duration to prevent damage to the hot air gun.
- Normal Discoloration: The hot air gun uses high-strength stainless steel tubes. Due to the high temperatures during manufacturing and quality control testing, the steel tube may exhibit a slight bronze color. This is a normal phenomenon and does not indicate a defect.

8. Troubleshooting
- 'S-E' Error Displayed: If the LED display shows 'S-E', it indicates a fault with the station's sensor module. To resolve this, the heating element (which includes the sensor module) needs to be replaced.
- Indicator ON, No Heat: If the operation indicator light turns ON but the hot air gun does not produce heat, it signifies a faulty heating element. The heating element needs to be replaced.
- Heating Element Replacement: When replacing the heating element, pay close attention to the original connection order and colors of the wires. Ensure they are reconnected correctly to avoid further issues.
9. User Tips
- Thick Solder Rework: The 857D+ is well-suited for desoldering various SMD components. Its 600W power and 168L/min air volume provide sufficient heat and airflow for components with thicker solder pads, common in many SMD applications.
- Voltage Compatibility: The Silverflo 857D+ is available in multiple voltage configurations, including 120V US, 220V EU, 230V UK, and 240V AU. Always ensure you have selected the correct voltage and plug type compatible with your region's electrical standards.
