3. Before Installation: Pre-Purchase Checklist

Before proceeding with installation, it is crucial to perform the following checks to ensure compatibility and prevent potential issues:

Pre-purchase checklist image, advising to check for existing cables, identical 16-pin connectors, consistent pin definitions, and the Android head unit's 8-pin UART interface, with a warning about complex auto parts.

Figure 4: Check Before Purchase

  1. Cables: If you are purchasing only the CAN Bus Box, ensure you have the necessary wiring harness. No cables are equipped with the decoder itself.
  2. Connector Type: Check if your existing wiring harness has an identical 16-pin cable connector with a pin spacing of 2.0mm.
  3. Pin Function Definitions: Verify that the pin function definitions of your vehicle's connector are consistent with the CAN Bus Box. Refer to the 'Pin Definition' table below.
  4. Android Head Unit Interface: Confirm that your Android head unit has the same 8-pin connector interface for UART communication. You will need to find the 8-pin UART plug of your wiring harness and connect it to the 8-pin UART socket of the Android head unit.

Warning: Auto parts are complex. If you are unsure about fitting, please contact support before purchase.

5. Operating Instructions: Android Head Unit Setup

After physical installation, you need to configure your Android head unit to recognize and utilize the CAN Bus Box. The exact steps may vary slightly depending on your Android head unit's manufacturer and software version. Consult your head unit vendor if you encounter difficulties.

Step 2: Set up CAN on Android Head Unit

Access the settings on your Android head unit to configure the CAN Bus. The following images demonstrate a typical setup process:

Figure 7: Android Head Unit CAN Bus Setup

  1. Enter Settings: Navigate to the main settings menu of your Android head unit. Look for options like 'Car Settings' or similar.
  2. Enter Factory Settings: Within the car settings, you may need to access a 'Factory' or 'Factory Settings' menu. This often requires a password. Common passwords include: 3368, 1617, 8317, 8888. If these do not work, or if you do not know the factory password, please consult the seller of your Android radio.
  3. Navigate to CAN Bus Settings: Once in the factory settings, find the 'CAN bus setting' or 'CarType Setting' option.

Step 3: Select CAN Bus Box Manufacturer & Car Model

Within the CAN bus settings, you will need to specify the manufacturer of the CAN Bus Box and your specific car model.

Screenshots demonstrating how to select the CAN Bus Box manufacturer (Hiworld) and the specific car model within the Android head unit's settings.

Figure 8: Selecting Manufacturer and Car Model

  1. Select Manufacturer: Choose 'Hiworld' from the list of CAN Bus Box manufacturers.
  2. Select Car Model: Select your specific Fiat or Citroen model from the provided list (e.g., FIAT_W04 for Fiat 500L).
  3. Save and Reboot: After selecting the correct manufacturer and model, save your settings and reboot the Android head unit for changes to take effect.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Power/Functionality: Ensure the operating voltage is within +9V~+16V. Check all wiring connections for proper seating and correct pin assignments according to the 'Pin Definition' table. Improper wiring can damage the decoder.
  • CAN Bus Not Recognized: Double-check the Android head unit settings. Ensure 'Hiworld' is selected as the CAN Bus Box manufacturer and your specific car model is correctly chosen. Save settings and reboot.
  • Unable to Access Factory Settings: If the provided passwords (3368, 1617, 8317, 8888) do not work, contact the seller of your Android head unit for the correct factory password.
  • Incorrect Car Model Functionality: Verify that the selected car model in the Android head unit settings precisely matches your vehicle. Refer to the 'Compatible Car Models' list in Section 2.
  • Unsure About Fitting: If you are uncertain about the compatibility or installation process, it is highly recommended to contact the seller for support before attempting installation.

7. User Tips

  • Verify Compatibility: Always double-check the 'Compatible Car Models' list, including specific model years, to ensure the FTF1.20 is suitable for your vehicle (e.g., for Fiat Idea 2004 or Fiat 500 Abarth 2012, confirm against the list).
  • Simplified Wiring: This CAN Bus Box is designed to simplify the integration of an Android head unit by converting CAN data, potentially avoiding the need to manually tap into ignition (ACC) or other signals from the fuse box.
  • Consult Head Unit Vendor: Since Android head unit interfaces can vary, if you encounter difficulties with software setup (e.g., finding specific menus or passwords), your Android head unit vendor is the best resource for assistance.

8. Maintenance

The Hiworld FTF1.20 CAN Bus Data Converter is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance. To ensure its longevity and optimal performance:

  • Keep Dry: Avoid exposing the device to moisture or liquids.
  • Clean Gently: If cleaning is necessary, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Temperature: Avoid extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, as these can affect electronic components.
  • Secure Installation: Ensure the device is securely mounted to prevent vibrations or physical damage during vehicle operation.

9. Warranty and Support

For any questions, technical support, or warranty claims regarding your Hiworld FTF1.20 CAN Bus Data Converter, please contact the seller or manufacturer directly. Provide your purchase details and a clear description of the issue to facilitate a quick resolution.
