4. Setup and Initial Use

The KWS-X1 USB Tester is designed for plug-and-play operation. No complex installation is required.

4.1 Connecting the Tester

  1. Identify the Type-C input and output ports on the tester.
  2. Connect the Type-C input of the KWS-X1 tester to your power source (e.g., wall charger, power bank, computer USB port).
  3. Connect your device (e.g., smartphone, tablet, laptop) to the Type-C output of the KWS-X1 tester using a compatible Type-C cable.

4.2 Basic Navigation

The tester features buttons for navigation and changing display pages. Refer to the device's side for 'BACK' and 'OK' buttons, and 'OFF/ON' for power control.

5. Operating Instructions

The KWS-X1 offers various measurement and testing modes accessible through its intuitive interface.

5.1 Real-time Voltage, Current, and Power Display

Upon connection, the default screen displays real-time voltage (V), current (A), and power (W) values. It also shows accumulated mAh/mWh and temperature.

5.2 Ripple Measurement

This mode allows you to analyze the ripple in the power supply, which is crucial for assessing power quality. Navigate to the Ripple Measurement screen via the menu.

  • Status Indication: Real-time measurement or pause measurement (use the confirmation key to switch status).
  • Sampling Speed Display: Adjust with +/- buttons.
  • Plotting Curve Area: Visual representation of the ripple.
  • Real-time Data: Displays voltage, current, and power (can be paused).
  • 100ms Average Ripple: Real-time display following VBUS voltage changes.

5.3 Curve Measurement

This mode provides a graphical representation of voltage, current, and power over time.

  • Cell Voltage Display: Curves in 4 areas adaptively follow the total voltage.
  • Sampling Time Display: Indicates the total time of the displayed table section (+/- switching speed).
  • Current Direction Indication: Updates flow rate based on current size.

5.4 Protocol Testing - Automated Testing

The tester can automatically detect and display supported fast charging protocols.

  • Status Indication: Provides prompts after automatic operation completion.
  • PD Status Indication: Includes PD2.0-3.1 Fixed AVS EPR.
  • PDO Maximum Gear and Power Display: Shows the maximum power delivery capabilities.
  • PPS Support: Indicates whether PPS is supported and displays maximum adjustable PPS gear power.
  • Fixed Gear Voltage: Displays voltage supported by fixed gear and adjustable PDO voltage groups.
  • QC2.0/3.0 Support: Shows fixed slot support status for Quick Charge protocols.
  • PD Protocol Version: Indicates the maximum PD protocol version.

5.5 Protocol Test - PD Single Decoy

This feature allows for triggering specific PD protocols. Note that the selected gear will not be triggered immediately; you must press the confirmation key to confirm the enticement before the display synchronizes.

  • Protocol Version and Stalls: Displays detailed protocol version and number of stalls (defaults to PDO, AVS EPR expansion parts are specifically displayed).
  • Current Display: Shows current stall, real-time current, and current direction.
  • Supported Gear Enumeration: If more than the maximum display, intervals are merged to ensure data integrity.
  • Selected Gear Information: Provides details about the chosen gear.

5.6 PDE-Marker Data Cable Inspection

This function is used to inspect the quality and capabilities of Type-C data cables, especially for high-power fast charging.
