4. Installation Guide

4.1. Preparation

  • Ensure your motherboard is compatible with the cooler's supported sockets (Intel LGA 115X/1200/1700/2011 or AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+/AM4/AM5/FM1/FM2).
  • Clean the CPU surface thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol to remove any old thermal paste.
  • Apply a small amount of the provided thermal paste to the center of the CPU's Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS).

4.2. Mounting the Cooler

The installation process may vary slightly depending on your CPU socket type. Refer to your motherboard's manual for specific backplate and mounting instructions if needed.

For AMD Motherboards:

For AMD sockets (AM4/AM5, etc.), it is crucial to retain the original CPU retention backplate that came with your motherboard. The cooler bracket will utilize this existing backplate for secure mounting.

General Steps:

  1. Attach the appropriate mounting brackets to the cooler base.
  2. Align the cooler with the CPU and mounting holes on the motherboard.
  3. Gently press down and secure the cooler using the provided screws, tightening them in a diagonal pattern to ensure even pressure.

4.3. Wiring Connections

The fan features two connectors: a 4-PIN PWM connector for fan speed control and a 5V-3PIN ARGB connector for lighting control.

  • 4-PIN PWM Connector: Connect this to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard. This allows the motherboard to control the fan speed based on CPU temperature.
  • 5V-3PIN ARGB Connector: Connect this to a compatible 5V-3PIN Addressable RGB header on your motherboard.

Important Note on RGB Functionality:

  • If only the 4-PIN PWM cable is connected, the fan lighting will operate in Auto-RGB mode, displaying a default color cycle. This mode is supported by all motherboards.
  • After the 5V-3PIN ARGB connector is connected to a compatible motherboard header, the fan lighting will switch to ARGB mode, allowing for motherboard synchronization and software control (e.g., ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, ASRock Polychrome Sync).
  • Your motherboard must support 5V-3PIN ARGB synchronization to utilize the customizable lighting effects. This cooler does not support 12V-4PIN RGB headers.

5. Operation

5.1. Fan Speed Control (PWM)

The 4-PIN PWM connector allows your motherboard to dynamically adjust the fan speed based on the CPU temperature. This ensures optimal cooling performance when needed and quieter operation during lighter loads. You can typically configure fan curves in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings or through manufacturer-provided software.

5.2. ARGB Lighting Control

If the 5V-3PIN ARGB connector is properly connected to a compatible motherboard header, you can control the lighting effects using your motherboard's RGB software (e.g., ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, ASRock Polychrome Sync). This allows you to customize colors, patterns, and synchronize the cooler's lighting with other ARGB components in your system.

If the 5V-3PIN ARGB connector is not used, the fan will display a default Auto-RGB lighting effect.

6. Maintenance

  • Dust Cleaning: Periodically clean the fan blades and heatsink fins to prevent dust buildup, which can impede airflow and reduce cooling efficiency. Use compressed air or a soft brush. Ensure the fan is powered off before cleaning.
  • Thermal Paste: Reapply thermal paste if you remove the cooler from the CPU for any reason. Old thermal paste can dry out and lose effectiveness.
  • Cable Management: Ensure all cables are neatly routed and not interfering with fan operation or airflow within the case.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1. Fan Not Spinning / Noisy Fan

  • Check if the 4-PIN PWM connector is securely plugged into the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard.
  • Ensure the fan cable is not obstructed by other components or cables.
  • Verify fan speed settings in BIOS/UEFI.
  • Clean any dust buildup on the fan blades.

7.2. No RGB Lighting / Incorrect Colors

  • Confirm the 5V-3PIN ARGB connector is securely plugged into a compatible 5V-3PIN ARGB header on your motherboard.
  • Ensure your motherboard supports 5V-3PIN ARGB synchronization and that you are using the correct software for control.
  • Verify that the ARGB header is enabled in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings.
  • Check for any loose connections or damaged cables.
  • Remember that 12V-4PIN RGB headers are not supported.

7.3. High CPU Temperatures

  • Ensure the cooler is properly mounted and making full contact with the CPU.
  • Verify that thermal paste was applied correctly and evenly.
  • Check fan operation and ensure it's spinning at appropriate speeds.
  • Ensure adequate airflow within your PC case.

8. User Tips

  • For optimal cooling, ensure your PC case has good airflow and proper fan configuration.
  • When installing, double-check that the heat pipes do not interfere with RAM modules, especially in compact ITX builds. The IW-X6 is designed to minimize such interference.
  • Utilize your motherboard's fan control software to create a custom fan curve that balances cooling performance and noise levels according to your preference.
  • If you experience any issues with ARGB lighting, try updating your motherboard's BIOS and RGB control software to the latest versions.

9. Warranty and Support
