2. Safety Information

ATTENTION! Before using this radio, read this guide which contains important operating instructions for safe usage and RF energy awareness and control for compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

2.1 RF Energy Exposure and Product Safety Guide

This radio uses electromagnetic energy in the radio frequency (RF) spectrum. Improper use can cause biological damage. All Retekess radios are designed, manufactured, and tested to meet government-established RF exposure levels. Users should be aware of RF energy exposure and follow simple control procedures.

2.2 Local Government Regulations

Users must be fully aware of and able to control their exposure to meet occupational requirements. Your Retekess radio has an RF Exposure Product Label, and this manual provides information and operating instructions to control RF exposure and satisfy compliance requirements.

2.3 Radio License (if appropriate)

Business radios operate on regulated radio frequencies. To transmit on these frequencies, a license may be required. Contact local government radio management departments for detailed classification and use. Use of this radio outside the intended country of distribution may be prohibited.

2.4 Unauthorized Modification and Adjustment

Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance may void the user's authority to operate this radio. Transmitter adjustments should only be made by or under the supervision of technically qualified personnel. Replacement of any unauthorized transmitter component could violate regulations.

2.5 FCC Requirements

  • This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
  • This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device.
  • This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. If not installed and used according to instructions, it may cause harmful interference to radio communications.

2.6 Avoid Choking Hazard

This product contains small parts. Keep out of reach of children under 3 years to avoid choking hazards.

2.7 Protect Your Hearing

  • Use the lowest volume necessary for your task.
  • Increase volume only in noisy surroundings.
  • Reduce volume before adding a headset or earpiece.
  • Limit the time you use headsets or earpieces at high volume.
  • When using the radio without a headset or earpiece, do not place the radio's speaker directly against your ear.
  • Be careful with earphones; excessive sound pressure can cause hearing loss.

Note: Prolonged exposure to loud noises can cause temporary or permanent hearing damage. The louder the volume, the less time is required for damage to occur.

2.8 Avoid Burns

Antennas

  • Do not use any portable radio with a damaged antenna. Contact with a damaged antenna can cause minor burns.

Batteries

  • When conductive materials (jewelry, keys, chains) touch exposed battery terminals, it can complete an electrical circuit, causing the battery to short circuit and become hot, leading to burns. Handle batteries with care, especially when placing them in pockets or containers with metal objects.

Long Transmission

When the transceiver is used for long transmissions, the radiator and chassis may become hot.

2.9 Safety Operation

Forbidden Actions

  • Do not use the charger outdoors or in moist environments; use only in dry locations.
  • Do not disassemble the charger, as this may result in electrical shock or fire.
  • Do not operate the charger if it is broken or damaged.
  • Do not place a portable radio in the area over an airbag or in the airbag deployment area. The radio may be propelled with great force and cause serious injury if the airbag inflates.

To Reduce Risk

  • Pull by the plug, not the cord, when disconnecting the charger.
  • Unplug the charger from the AC outlet before any maintenance or cleaning.
  • Contact Retekess for assistance with repairs and service.
  • The adapter must be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible.
  • Risk of explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to instructions.
  • The plug is considered the disconnect device of the adapter.
  • The operating temperature of the EUT cannot exceed the specified range.

2.10 Approved Accessories

  • This radio meets RF exposure guidelines when used with Retekess-supplied or designated accessories. Use of other accessories may not ensure compliance and may violate regulations.
