This module is designed to provide an uninterruptible power supply for various electronic devices, ensuring continuous operation during main power outages.

3. Safety Precautions

  • Always connect the battery as the very last step during setup.
  • Ensure the battery used is a 3S lithium battery pack (e.g., lithium polymer or 18650 battery packs).
  • Use at least 20AWG wire for input and output connections.
  • Keep wire lengths as short as possible (not exceeding 10cm) and as thick as possible to minimize resistance and heat.
  • The control board may generate heat during operation; install it at a safe distance from the battery to prevent overheating.

6. Setup Instructions

  1. Prepare Wiring: Ensure you have appropriate 20AWG or thicker wires for input and output connections. Keep wire lengths under 10cm for optimal performance.
  2. Identify Connections: Refer to the wiring diagram below to identify the IN+, IN-, OUT+, OUT-, B+, and B- terminals.
  3. Connect Input Power: Connect your DC 12V power supply to the IN+ (Power Supply Positive) and IN- (Power Negative) terminals.
  4. Connect Output Load: Connect your 12V device (load) to the OUT+ (Output Positive) and OUT- (Output Negative) terminals.
  5. Connect External Indicator (Optional): If desired, connect a 3mm common anode red and green light-emitting diode to the LED terminals for charge status indication. Red indicates charging, green indicates fully charged.
  6. Connect Battery (LAST STEP): Connect your 3S lithium battery pack (e.g., lithium polymer or 18650 battery packs) to the B+ (Battery Pack Positive) and B- (Battery Pack Negative) terminals. This is a critical step and should only be done after all other connections are secure.
  7. Default Battery Pack Configuration: The module is configured for a 2-wire battery connection by default. If using a 4-wire battery pack, you will need to remove resistors R16, R17, and R18 from the board.

7. Operating Instructions

Once properly connected, the UPS module operates automatically:

  • Normal Operation: When the main DC 12V power supply is active, the module will power the connected load and simultaneously charge the connected 3S lithium battery pack. The external indicator LED (if connected) will show a red light during charging.
  • Battery Fully Charged: Once the battery is fully charged, the external indicator LED (if connected) will turn green.
  • Power Outage: If the main DC 12V power supply is disconnected or fails, the module will seamlessly switch to drawing power from the connected 3S lithium battery pack. This transition is designed to be uninterrupted, preventing any disruption to your connected equipment.
  • Power Restoration: When the main DC 12V power supply is restored, the module will automatically switch back to using the main power source and resume charging the battery.

8. Maintenance

  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the module, as it can become warm during operation. Maintain a certain distance from the battery and other heat-sensitive components.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the module free from dust and debris to ensure proper heat dissipation and prevent short circuits.
  • Connection Integrity: Periodically check all wire connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your UPS module, consider the following:

  • No Output Power:
    • Verify that the input DC 12V power supply is active and correctly connected.
    • Check battery connections (B+, B-) and ensure the battery is charged.
    • Confirm that the load is within the 36W maximum output power.
  • Battery Not Charging:
    • Ensure the main DC 12V power supply is connected and functioning.
    • Check battery polarity and connections.
    • If an external LED is connected, check its functionality.
  • Module Overheating:
    • Ensure adequate airflow around the module.
    • Verify that the load current (load operating current + charging current) does not exceed the capacity of your input power supply.
    • Reduce the load if it is consistently running at maximum capacity.
