Maintenance
Cleaning
Wipe the radio's surface with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the Type-C port cover is securely closed to prevent dust and moisture ingress.
Battery Care
The UV20 features intelligent power saving for longer standby time. To maximize battery life:
- Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
- Charge the battery regularly, even if not in use, to maintain its capacity.
- Store the radio and battery in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your BaoFeng UV20, try the following basic troubleshooting steps:
- No Power: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly installed. Rotate the Power/Volume knob to turn on the radio.
- No Reception/Poor Audio: Check the antenna connection. Ensure you are on the correct frequency/channel. Adjust the squelch level. Verify that the volume is turned up.
- Cannot Transmit: Ensure the PTT button is fully pressed. Check if the frequency is busy or if there are restrictions (e.g., CTCSS/DCS mismatch).
- Short Range: Ensure the antenna is properly attached. Check for obstructions between radios. Ensure the radio is set to high power output if needed. Note that maximum range can vary significantly based on terrain and environmental conditions.
