The ST184 Clamp Meter also requires batteries, typically 2*AAA batteries. Refer to the device's battery compartment for specific instructions on installation and polarity.

4.3 Connecting Test Leads (ST184)

For most measurements (except AC current via clamp), connect the red test lead to the 'VΩHz%nF°F' jack and the black test lead to the 'COM' jack.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 ANENG ST184 Clamp Meter Operations

The ST184 features an automatic range function for ease of use. Press the power button to turn on the device.

ST184 performing various measurements

Figure 5: ST184 Functional Measurement Examples

5.1.1 DC Voltage Measurement

Connect the test leads to the circuit. The meter will automatically detect and display the DC voltage. Small errors may occur in common voltage detection.

5.1.2 AC Voltage Measurement

Insert the test leads into the live and neutral holes of an AC outlet. The meter will automatically detect and display the AC voltage.

5.1.3 Resistance Measurement

Connect the test leads across the component to measure resistance. The meter will display the resistance value.

5.1.4 Capacitance Measurement

Important: Discharge capacitors before measurement to avoid damage. Connect the test leads across the capacitor. The meter will display the capacitance value.

5.1.5 Buzzer Measurement (Continuity)

Connect the test leads across the circuit or component. If there is continuity, a "drip-drip" buzzer sound will be emitted from the breakpoint.

5.1.6 Temperature Measurement

Connect the temperature probe (electric couple) to the meter and place the probe in contact with the object to be measured. The meter will display the temperature.

5.1.7 AC Current Measurement (Clamp)

Do not break the wire. Clamp the meter's jaw around a single conductor to detect AC current. Ensure the stylus is placed in the specified position as shown in the figure. When measuring current, the position of the measured fluid should be placed in the center of the clamp to avoid length error. AC current measurement can only measure the zero line or fire line, and only a core line. The common electrical appliances in the home power supply line are not measured because it contains a number of core wires.

Figure 6: AC Current Measurement

Correct and incorrect clamping for AC current measurement

Figure 7: Correct Clamping for AC Current Measurement

5.1.8 Hertz Measurement (Frequency)

Press the meter to the Hertz position and place it close to the power source to measure frequency.

5.1.9 NCV Tests (Non-Contact Voltage)

When voltage is detected, the screen displays as shown in the figure and emits a beeping sound.

5.1.10 Zero Fire Line Identification

Insert the watch pen into the hole. For the fire line, a "drop by drop" sound will be heard. For the zero line, there will be no buzzer.

5.1.11 Induction Detection

When AC voltage is detected, the screen displays "----" and beeps, and the LED flashes red.

5.2 B15 Induction Tester Pen Operations

The B15 pen offers multiple functions for electrical detection.

B15 Induction Tester Pen usage examples

Figure 8: B15 Induction Tester Pen Usage Examples

5.2.1 Zero FireWire Detection

Touch the touch pole on the side of the electric pen with your hand and insert the electric pen into the socket. The green light is always on when the detection head touches the zero wire. The red light flashes and beeps when the detection head touches the live wire.

5.2.2 Self-test Function

Hold the pen in one hand and touch the side touch pole with one hand. The green light is on to indicate that the battery is sufficient, and the light is not on to indicate that the power is insufficient.

5.2.3 Line Breakpoint Lookup

Find along the line where the LED blue light is on. The line is smooth and good. If the blue light is not on, it indicates a line disconnection.

Video 2: Demonstration of the B15 Induction Tester Pen's line breakpoint lookup function.

5.2.4 Electrical On-Off Detection

The inner core of the plug wire is intact, the green light is on. If it does not light up, the wire core is disconnected somewhere. Usage: Press and hold the neutral wire of the plug with one hand, press and hold the touch pole of the tester pen with the other hand, and then contact the plug live wire with the metal head of the tester pen. Phenomenon: The green light is on to indicate that the circuit is normal, and the light is not on to indicate that the circuit is disconnected somewhere.

5.2.5 DC Detection

Measure as shown in the figure. Press and hold the positive electrode of the battery and the touch electrode of the electric pen. The green light is on to indicate that the power is sufficient, and the light is not on to indicate that the power is insufficient.

5.2.6 Voltage Sensing

Built-in sensor. When AC voltage is detected, the LED blue induction indicator will light up to measure electricity without contact to prevent the danger of electric shock.

5.2.7 Flashlight Lighting

Press the orange button to turn on the flashlight. This assists with night work and helps in seeing the measurement position.
