PGST Smoke Detector User Manual

Model: 441 | Brand: PGST

1. Introduction

The PGST Smoke Detector is a high-sensitivity fire alarm designed to provide early warning of smoke and potential fires. Featuring 360-degree all-round detection and a loud 85-decibel alarm, it integrates smart algorithms for reliable performance. This device operates on a 433MHz frequency and includes a low battery reminder for continuous protection. It is suitable for various environments including homes, offices, warehouses, and public spaces.

2. Safety Information

  • Read all instructions carefully before installation and use.
  • Do not paint the smoke detector. Paint can clog the sensing chambers and prevent the unit from operating correctly.
  • Do not install in areas with high humidity, extreme temperatures, or excessive dust.
  • Test the smoke detector regularly as described in the 'Operating Instructions' section.
  • Replace batteries immediately when the low battery reminder activates.

3. Package Contents

  • PGST Smoke Detector (Model 441)
  • Mounting Screws and Anchors
  • User Manual (this document)

Note: Due to air traffic control regulations, batteries are not included in the package. Please purchase the required battery separately.

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

  1. Carefully open the battery compartment on the back of the smoke detector.
  2. Insert the required battery (type specified on the device or packaging, typically a 9V or AA battery pack) ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Close the battery compartment securely.

5.2 Mounting the Detector

Choose an appropriate location for your smoke detector. For optimal protection, install smoke detectors in every sleeping area and on every level of your home. Avoid placing them near windows, doors, or air vents where drafts might interfere with detection.

  1. Using the provided screws and anchors, securely mount the detector base to the ceiling or wall.
  2. Attach the smoke detector unit to the mounted base by twisting it clockwise until it locks into place.

5.3 Pairing with a Compatible Alarm System (433MHz)

This smoke detector is designed to work with compatible 433MHz alarm systems. The pairing process typically involves setting your alarm panel into 'learning mode' and then triggering the smoke detector.

  1. Refer to your alarm system's manual to put the control panel into 'learning' or 'pairing' mode for detectors.
  2. On the smoke detector, press the 'TEST' button (refer to Figure 3). This will send a signal to the alarm panel.
  3. The alarm panel should acknowledge the new device. Assign the smoke detector to a 'Fire Alarm' zone, if prompted.
  4. Confirm successful pairing on your alarm panel.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Self-Test Function

To ensure your smoke detector is functioning correctly, perform a self-test weekly:

  • Press and hold the 'TEST' button on the front of the detector for a few seconds.
  • The detector should emit a loud alarm sound and flash its indicator light.
  • Release the button. The alarm should stop.
  • If the alarm does not sound or the light does not flash, refer to the 'Troubleshooting' section.

6.2 Mute Function

In case of a false alarm (e.g., from cooking fumes), you can temporarily silence the alarm:

  • Press the 'MUTE' button on the front of the detector.
  • The alarm will silence for a short period (e.g., 5-10 minutes) before automatically resetting.
  • If the smoke condition persists, the alarm will reactivate.

6.3 Alarm Indication

  • Smoke Alarm: When smoke is detected, the detector will emit a loud 85-decibel siren and its indicator light will flash rapidly. If connected to a compatible alarm system, it will also send a signal to the control panel and potentially push notifications to your mobile app.
  • Low Battery Reminder: When the battery voltage is low, the detector will emit a wireless low voltage code. This signal is typically sent every 24 hours under continuous low voltage. The indicator light may also flash periodically or a chirp sound may be heard.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Regular cleaning helps maintain the detector's sensitivity and prevents false alarms:

  • Once a month, gently vacuum the exterior of the smoke detector using a soft brush attachment to remove dust and cobwebs.
  • Do not use cleaning solvents or sprays directly on the detector.

7.2 Battery Replacement

When the low battery reminder activates (wireless code, periodic chirping, or flashing light), replace the battery immediately:

  1. Twist the detector counter-clockwise to remove it from its mounting base.
  2. Open the battery compartment.
  3. Remove the old battery and dispose of it according to local regulations.
  4. Insert a new, fresh battery of the correct type, ensuring proper polarity.
  5. Close the battery compartment and reattach the detector to its mounting base.
  6. Perform a self-test (Section 6.1) to confirm proper operation.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Detector does not alarm during self-test:
    • Check if the battery is correctly installed and fully charged. Replace if necessary.
    • Ensure the detector is securely attached to its mounting base.
  • Frequent false alarms:
    • Clean the detector as described in Section 7.1 to remove dust or debris.
    • Relocate the detector away from cooking fumes, high humidity areas (e.g., bathrooms), or strong air currents.
  • Low battery reminder (chirping/signal):
    • Replace the battery immediately as described in Section 7.2.
  • Detector not pairing with alarm system:
    • Ensure your alarm panel is in the correct 'learning' mode.
    • Verify the smoke detector is within the wireless range of the alarm panel.
    • Confirm the alarm panel supports 433MHz frequency devices.

9. User Tips

  • Strategic Placement: Install smoke detectors on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and in the hallway outside of sleeping areas.
  • Regular Testing: Make it a habit to test your smoke detectors weekly using the 'TEST' button to ensure they are always ready.
  • Emergency Plan: Develop and practice a fire escape plan with all household members, including two ways out of every room and a designated outside meeting point.
  • Know the Sound: Familiarize everyone in the household with the sound of the smoke alarm.

10. Warranty and Support

For warranty information and technical support, please contact the seller or manufacturer directly. Keep your purchase receipt as proof of purchase.
