6. Setup and Operation
Follow these steps to set up and operate your AUTOOL SDT60 Car Smoke Leak Detector:
6.1. Initial Setup
- Install the Hook: Securely attach the metal hook to the designated port on the top of the main unit. This allows you to hang the detector under the vehicle's hood.
- Add Test Oil: For the first use, fill the detector with 10ml of test oil (liquid paraffin or baby oil) through the filling port (A). Do not exceed this amount. For subsequent uses, add fresh oil only when smoke output becomes thin, and do not add more than 20ml at a time. Regularly replace the detector oil.
- Connect the Smoke Hose: Attach one end of the smoke hose to the smoke outlet (G) on the detector.
- Connect Power: Connect the power clamp to the 'POWER 12V' socket (F) on the detector. Then, connect the red clamp to the positive (+) terminal of a 12V vehicle battery and the black clamp to the negative (-) terminal.

6.2. Leak Detection Procedure
- Prepare the Vehicle: Open the engine cover and hang the detector using the installed hook. Disconnect the pipe system you intend to test from the vehicle and seal any open ends with the provided rubber cone adapters, leaving one opening for the smoke hose.
- Start Smoke Generation: Turn on the smoke control switch (D). The smoke indicator (C) will light up, and the detector will begin generating smoke.
- Inject Smoke: Insert the free end of the smoke hose into the pipe system you are testing.
- Observe Pressure and Smoke: In approximately 30 seconds, the pipe system will be filled with smoke. Observe the pressure gauge (B) to determine the degree of leakage (No Leak, Small Leak, Severe Leak). Visually inspect the pipe system for smoke escaping, which indicates a leak point. Use a headlamp if necessary for better visibility.
- Locate Leakage Points: The smoke will exit from any cracks or openings in the system, making leaks visible.
- Complete Test: Once leaks are identified and addressed, turn off the smoke control switch and disconnect the power.

6.3. Application Areas
The AUTOOL SDT60 is suitable for detecting leaks in various automotive systems, including but not limited to:
- Intake System Test
- Exhaust System Test
- Car Sealing Test
- Various Pipe Fittings Test
- Fuel Tank System Test
- Crankcase
- Oil Seal
- Intercooler Air
- Throttle Valve
- Coolant Tank

7. Maintenance
- Oil Management: Always ensure the correct amount of test oil is in the detector. Overfilling or underfilling can affect performance. Regularly check the oil level and replace old oil with fresh test oil.
- Cleaning: Keep the unit clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
8. Troubleshooting
- No Smoke Output:
- Check if the power clamps are correctly connected to a 12V battery.
- Ensure sufficient test oil is present in the filling port.
- Verify the smoke control switch is in the 'ON' position.
- Weak Smoke Output:
- Add fresh test oil (up to 20ml).
- Replace the test oil if it has been used for an extended period.
- Device Shuts Off Automatically:
- The device has an intelligent protector that activates if the temperature exceeds 75°C. Allow the unit to cool down before resuming operation.
- Avoid continuous operation for more than 8 minutes.
- Inaccurate Pressure Gauge Reading:
- Ensure all connections to the vehicle system are tight and properly sealed.
- Check for blockages in the smoke hose or adapters.
9. Tips for Best Performance
- Always start with a clean and dry system for optimal leak detection.
- When testing, ensure the area around the suspected leak is clear of obstructions for better visibility of the smoke.
- For very small leaks, allow the smoke to build up in the system for a longer period (within the 8-minute operational limit) to make them more apparent.
- If disconnecting a test pipe mid-test, use a rubber stopple to secure the other side to maintain pressure and smoke within the system.
