Operating Instructions

Power On/Off and Speed Control

The tool is activated by pressing the speed control switch (trigger). The speed is variable, depending on how far the switch is pressed. Release the switch to turn off the tool.

Speed Adjustment Switch

Use the 2-variable switch control (refer to Figure 2, item 1) located on top of the drill to select between low speed and high speed:

  • Low Speed: Ideal for applications requiring higher torque, such as driving screws or drilling into softer materials.
  • High Speed: Suitable for faster drilling into various materials.

Figure 5: Speed adjustment switch

Torque Adjustment

The drill offers 20 torque adjustment settings (refer to Figure 2, item 3). Rotate the torque adjustment ring to select the desired torque:

  • Lower settings (1-5) are for driving small screws or working with delicate materials.
  • Medium settings (6-15) are for driving larger screws or drilling into softer materials.
  • Higher settings (16-20) are for heavy-duty screwdriving or drilling into harder materials.
  • The drill icon setting is for maximum torque, suitable for drilling applications.

Switchable Function Mode

Select the appropriate mode by rotating the mode selector ring (refer to Figure 2, item 2):

  • Screwdriver Mode: For driving and removing screws.
  • Drilling Mode: For general drilling into wood, metal, and plastic.
  • Impact Drilling Mode: For drilling into masonry or concrete, utilizing the impact mechanism.

Forward and Reverse Rotation

A switch located above the speed control switch allows you to select the direction of rotation:

  • Push the switch to the left for forward (clockwise) rotation.
  • Push the switch to the right for reverse (counter-clockwise) rotation.
  • Placing the switch in the center position locks the trigger for safety and prevents accidental starting.

LED Light

The integrated LED light (refer to Figure 2, item 5) automatically illuminates the work area when the speed control switch is pressed, providing better visibility in dimly lit environments.

Battery Indicator

The battery indicator (refer to Figure 2, item 6) displays the remaining battery capacity, allowing you to monitor power levels and plan for recharging.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your WORX WU131X Impact Drill.

  • General Cleaning: Keep the ventilation slots of the tool clean to prevent overheating. Regularly wipe down the tool housing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage plastic parts.
  • Chuck Maintenance: Periodically clean the chuck jaws to ensure proper gripping of bits. Remove any dust, wood chips, or metal shavings that may accumulate.
  • Battery Care: Store battery packs in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. For long-term storage, charge batteries fully and recharge them every 3-6 months to maintain their lifespan.
  • Brushless Motor: The brushless motor design reduces the need for frequent maintenance compared to traditional brushed motors, contributing to longer tool life and consistent performance.

User Tips

  • Battery Management: Always ensure your battery is fully charged before starting a task to avoid interruptions. Consider having a spare battery for larger projects.
  • Optimal Speed Selection: For drilling into harder materials or driving larger screws, start with a lower speed setting to gain control, then increase as needed. Use high speed for quick drilling in softer materials.
  • Torque Control: Experiment with the 20 torque settings. Lower settings prevent over-tightening and stripping screws, especially in softer woods or when working with delicate fasteners.
  • Visibility: The built-in LED light is very useful in poorly lit areas; remember to utilize it for better accuracy and safety.
  • Bare Tool Consideration: If you purchased the "bare tool" version (WU131X-9), remember that the battery and charger are sold separately. Ensure you have compatible 12V WORX batteries and a charger.
