6. Setup and Connection

The HDC-085C tester requires both a charger and a mobile phone (or other load) to be connected simultaneously for the display to activate. This is because most Type-C port chargers default to no voltage output until a load protocol is detected.

Important Notice: When using a USB-C port charger, this meter will only light up and display when both the charger and the phone are connected at the same time!

Follow these connection methods:

Figure 6.1: Connection Methods
  1. Operation Method 1: Insert the C Male end of the tester into the mobile phone. Then, connect the charger to the C Female end of the tester.
  2. Operation Method 2: Connect the charger to the C Male end of the tester. Then, insert the C Female end of the tester into the mobile phone.

Once connected correctly, the tester will power on and display the measurement data.

7. Functional Operation

The HDC-085C offers multiple display interfaces and functions controlled by its buttons.

Function Key:

  • Click: Cycle through the different display interfaces.
  • Press and Hold: Activates several functions depending on the current screen:
    • Data reset
    • Empty load reset
    • Brightness adjustment (Long press can also adjust brightness when in the large font interface on the second page).

Spin Key:

  • Click: Rotate the display in four directions (360° rotation).

Display Interfaces:

The tester typically offers the following interfaces:

  1. Main Test Interface: Displays Voltage (V), Current (A), Power (W), PVmAh, mWh, CPU temperature, and Max-V, Max-A, Max-W values.
  2. Large Font Display: Shows Voltage (V), Current (A), and Power (W) in a larger font for easier reading.
  3. Current Reset Zero: Allows resetting the no-load current.
  4. Display Font Switching Colors: (Only for color version) Allows switching between white and color font displays.
  5. Off Screen Design: Activates a countdown to turn off the display.

Bidirectional Current Detection:

Figure 7.3: Bidirectional Current Detection

The HDC-085C supports bidirectional current detection, allowing it to measure current flow in both directions. This is useful for understanding charging and discharging scenarios.

Automatic Screen Shutdown:

Figure 7.4: Automatic Screen Shutdown Function

The device features an automatic screen shutdown function to prevent the screen from turning on during PD protocol charger testing if the output is not connected to a device and there is no current. This extends the screen's lifespan, conserves power, and avoids interference at night.

8. Troubleshooting

Question 1: Why does the product not display when plugged into the charger separately?
Answer: The Type-C port of most chargers defaults to no voltage output. At this time, the product has no power supply and no display. The charger will only have voltage output when the load protocol is detected, and the product will only display it at this time. Ensure both the charger and the phone are connected.
Question 2: Why can't the test meter measure 10A or 120W on my product charger?
Answer: The values tested by this product are real-time charging parameters during the charging process. The parameters marked on the charger are the maximum power parameters of the product, and not always output such large parameters. The tester displays actual real-time usage.
Question 3: Why occasionally displays a current of 0.01-0.02A when the output is not connected to a load?
Answer: This product uses bidirectional current detection, and a small no-load current is a normal phenomenon. However, it can also be reset by quickly touching the current reset interface three times.
Question 4: Why is the measured capacity value in this table significantly different from the nominal battery capacity value of the mobile phone?
Answer: The measured capacity value in this table is the current voltage capacity value. If you need to know the capacity value of the phone's battery at 3.7V voltage, please use this table to display the power value and convert it according to the formula.

9. User Tips

  • For accurate readings, ensure all connections are secure and stable.
  • Utilize the screen rotation feature for optimal viewing angles in different setups.
  • Remember to reset data accumulation when starting a new test to avoid skewed results.
  • The color font display option (if available on your model) can improve readability in certain lighting conditions.

10. Maintenance

  • Clean the device regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Store the tester in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Protect the screen from scratches by keeping it in its original packaging or a protective case when not in use.

11. Warranty and Support

This product is covered by a manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. For specific warranty terms and conditions, please refer to the documentation provided with your purchase or contact the seller directly.
