1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the JJRC X17 RC Drone. This advanced quadcopter features a 6K dual camera with a 2-axis gimbal, GPS positioning, optical flow localization, and a brushless motor for stable and high-quality aerial photography and videography. This manual provides essential information for safe operation, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure you get the most out of your drone.

2. Safety Information

  • Always operate the drone in open areas, away from people, animals, and obstacles.
  • Ensure the battery is fully charged before each flight.
  • Do not operate the drone in strong winds or adverse weather conditions.
  • Keep hands and face clear of rotating propellers.
  • Read and understand all instructions before operating the drone.
  • Recommended age for operation is 14+ years. Contains small parts not for children under 3 years.

5. Setup

5.1 Unfolding the Drone

  1. Carefully remove the drone from its packaging.
  2. Unfold the drone arms until they click into place. Ensure all arms are fully extended and locked.

5.2 Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the drone's battery is fully charged using the provided USB charging cable. The charging time is approximately 4 hours.
  2. Insert the charged 11.1V 2850mAh battery into the drone's battery compartment. Ensure it is securely latched.

5.3 Remote Controller Setup

  1. Install 3 AA batteries (not included) into the remote controller.
  2. Extend the phone bracket on the remote controller.
  3. Download the official JJRC X17 app from the Google Play Store (for Android) or the App Store (for iOS) and install it on your smartphone.
  4. Place your smartphone securely in the remote controller's bracket.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off

  1. Drone: Press and hold the power button on the drone until the indicator lights illuminate.
  2. Remote Controller: Press and hold the power button on the remote controller until it powers on.

6.2 Pairing and Calibration

  1. Turn on the drone and remote controller.
  2. The remote controller will automatically attempt to pair with the drone. Wait for the connection to establish.
  3. Perform GPS calibration and geomagnetic calibration as indicated on the remote controller's display or the app. This is crucial for stable flight and accurate positioning.

6.3 Basic Flight Controls

  • One Key Take-off/Land: Press the dedicated button on the remote controller for automatic take-off or landing.
  • Throttle Joystick: Controls altitude (up/down).
  • Direction Joystick: Controls forward/backward, left/right movement.
  • Speed Control: Adjust flight speed using the designated control.

6.4 Advanced Flight Features

6.4.1 GPS and Optical Flow Positioning

The drone utilizes a dual positioning system (GPS for outdoor, Optical Flow for indoor) to maintain stable hovering and precise location.

6.4.2 Intelligent Follow Me Mode

The drone can automatically follow the movement of the operator. Control the aircraft flying at a distance of 5 meters from the pilot, turn on the following function, and it will automatically follow and take pictures.

6.4.3 Waypoint Flight

Use the app map to accurately specify navigation points. The drone will fly along the set path without manual control.

6.4.4 Point of Interest

Locate a center point and set a circle radius through the app. The drone will immediately circle the center point for flight, capturing a 360-degree view.

6.4.5 Gesture Control

Use specific hand gestures to trigger photo or video recording. The drone features automatic intelligent recognition for easy interval photos.

6.4.6 5G WiFi FPV and Image Transmission

Experience real-time first-person view (FPV) through the 5G WiFi connection. The drone supports HD image transmission up to 400-500 meters.

6.4.7 Dual Camera and 2-Axis Gimbal

The drone is equipped with a 6K UHD front camera and a bottom camera for versatile shooting. The 2-axis stabilizing gimbal effectively eliminates camera shake, ensuring stable and clear footage.

6.4.8 One Key Return

Press the 'One Key Return' button on the remote controller to automatically bring the drone back to its take-off point. This feature is supported by GPS.

6.4.9 Headless Mode

In Headless Mode, the drone's orientation is independent of its front end. It will move relative to the pilot's position, making it easier to control for beginners.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the drone and remote controller. Avoid using harsh chemicals or solvents.
  • Propellers: Regularly inspect propellers for damage (cracks, bends). Replace damaged propellers immediately using the provided screwdriver and spare blades.
  • Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place. Do not overcharge or over-discharge. If not used for a long period, charge the battery to about 50% every three months.
  • Storage: When not in use, fold the drone and store it in its original accessory box or portable carry bag to protect it from dust and damage.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Drone not powering on: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly installed.
  • Remote controller not connecting: Make sure both the drone and remote are powered on and within range. Re-attempt pairing.
  • Unstable flight: Perform GPS and geomagnetic calibration before flight. Check propellers for damage and replace if necessary. Ensure you are flying in an open area away from magnetic interference.
  • Poor image transmission: Ensure a strong 5G WiFi connection between your phone and the drone. Reduce distance between drone and remote/phone. Avoid areas with high signal interference.
  • Drone not responding to commands: Check remote controller battery levels. Ensure no obstacles are blocking the signal.
  • Drone drifts during flight: Recalibrate the gyroscope and compass.
  • One Key Return not working: Ensure GPS signal is strong and the drone has recorded its home point.

9. User Tips

  • Always check local regulations regarding drone usage before flying to ensure legal and safe operation.
  • Practice basic controls in a safe, open environment before attempting advanced features.
  • Keep an eye on the drone's battery level during flight to prevent unexpected landings or loss of control.
