Operating Instructions
- Power On and Illumination:
- Flip the power switch located at the base of the microscope.
- Adjust the LED light intensity using the dimmer control to achieve comfortable illumination.

Figure 7: LED Light Adjustment
- Placing the Specimen:
- Place a prepared specimen slide onto the mechanical stage.
- Use the stage control knobs to center the specimen under the objective lens.

Figure 8: Moving the Mechanical Stage
- Focusing:
- Using the coarse focus knob, slowly raise the stage until the specimen comes into rough focus.
- Then, use the fine focus knob for precise focusing until the image is sharp and clear.

- Adjusting Abbe Condenser: Adjust the NA1.25 Abbe condenser to optimize contrast and resolution for your specimen.
Video 1: Adjusting the Abbe Condenser (0:28-0:34 in product video)
- Changing Magnification: Rotate the revolving nosepiece to switch between objective lenses (4X, 10X, 40X, 100X). Re-focus with the fine adjustment knob as needed.

Note on 100X Oil Immersion Objective:
- When using the 100X objective, a drop of cedar oil must be placed directly on the specimen slide.
- Lower the objective until it makes contact with the oil, then focus carefully. This technique greatly enhances clarity for very fine structures.

- Binocular Head Adjustments:
- Interpupillary Distance: Adjust the distance between the eyepieces to match your eye spacing for comfortable viewing.
- Diopter Adjustment: The right eyepiece has a diopter adjustment ring. While looking through the left eyepiece with your left eye (right eye closed), focus the image using the coarse and fine focus knobs. Then, look through the right eyepiece with your right eye (left eye closed) and adjust only the diopter ring until the image is sharp.
Video 3: Diopter Adjustment (1:47-1:52 in product video)
- Rotation: The binocular head can be rotated 360 degrees for shared viewing or comfortable positioning.
Video 4: 360-degree Rotatable Eyepiece (1:35-1:45 in product video)
- Using Phone Adapter: Once attached, open your smartphone's camera app and align it with the eyepiece to view and capture images or videos of your specimen.
Video 5: How to use the Phone Holder (1:01-1:18 in product video)
- Electronic Eyepiece (Optional): The microscope can be used with an SV189 electronic eyepiece (sold separately) to connect to a computer for digital viewing and analysis.

Maintenance
- Cleaning Lenses: Use only specialized lens cleaning paper and solution. Gently wipe objective lenses and eyepieces. Never use abrasive materials.
- Cleaning Oil Immersion Lens: After using the 100X oil immersion objective, immediately clean off all cedar oil using lens paper and a small amount of lens cleaning solution. Failure to do so can damage the lens.
- General Cleaning: Wipe the microscope body with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or solvents.
- Dust Protection: Always use the provided dust covers when the microscope is not in use to prevent dust accumulation on optical components.
- Storage: Store the microscope in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No illumination | Power switch off, batteries depleted, AC adapter unplugged, LED dimmer set to minimum. | Turn on power switch, replace batteries, check AC adapter connection, increase LED brightness. |
| Image blurry/cannot focus | Incorrect focusing, objective lens not fully clicked into place, specimen upside down, dirty lens. | Use coarse and fine focus knobs, rotate nosepiece until objective clicks, ensure specimen is correctly oriented, clean lenses. |
| Dark field of view | Diaphragm closed too much, condenser too low, light intensity too low. | Open diaphragm, raise condenser, increase LED brightness. |
| Only one eye sees image (binocular) | Interpupillary distance incorrect, diopter not adjusted. | Adjust interpupillary distance, perform diopter adjustment. |

User Tips
- Always start observation with the lowest magnification objective (4X) to locate and center your specimen. Then, gradually increase magnification.
- When switching to higher power objectives, especially 40X and 100X, be very careful not to crash the objective into the slide. Use the fine focus knob for small adjustments.
- For optimal viewing with the 100X oil immersion lens, ensure there are no air bubbles in the immersion oil.
- Experiment with the condenser and diaphragm settings to achieve the best contrast and resolution for different types of specimens.
