4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The S8608 Illumination Meter requires 3 AAA batteries (not included in the standard package) for operation.

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
  2. Slide open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert three 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

Press the red Power Button (5) to turn the device on. To turn it off, press and hold the Power Button (5) for a few seconds.

5.2 Taking Measurements

  1. Remove the protective cap from the illumination sensor (1).
  2. Point the illumination sensor directly towards the light source you wish to measure.
  3. The current illuminance reading will be displayed on the LCD screen (2).

5.3 Unit Selection (LUX/FC)

Press the MODE Button (3) to toggle between Lux and Foot-Candle (FC) measurement units. The selected unit will be indicated on the LCD display.

5.4 Backlight Control

Press the Backlight Button (4) to activate or deactivate the LCD backlight. This feature is useful for reading measurements in dimly lit environments.

5.5 Data Hold Function

To freeze the current reading on the display, press the HOLD Button (6). The 'HOLD' indicator will appear on the screen. Press the HOLD Button (6) again to release the held value and resume live measurements.

5.6 MAX/MIN Measurement

Press the RANGE Button (7) to enter MAX/MIN measurement mode. Each press will cycle through:

  • MAX: Displays the maximum illuminance value recorded since entering this mode.
  • MIN: Displays the minimum illuminance value recorded since entering this mode.
  • Current: Returns to displaying the current live measurement.

5.7 Automatic Shutdown

The S8608 Illumination Meter features an automatic shutdown function to conserve battery life. If no operation is performed for a certain period, the device will automatically power off. This feature is indicated by 'AUTO' on the display.

5.8 Low Battery Indication

When the battery level is low, a low battery indicator will appear on the LCD display. Replace the batteries promptly to ensure accurate measurements and continued operation.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

To clean the device, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or immerse the device in water. Gently wipe the illumination sensor to ensure it remains free of dust and debris, which could affect measurement accuracy.

6.2 Storage

When not in use, store the S8608 Illumination Meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Always place the protective cap back on the illumination sensor to prevent damage and dust accumulation. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries.

6.3 Battery Replacement

Replace the AAA batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Refer to Section 4.1 for battery installation instructions.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on: Check if batteries are installed correctly and have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
  • Inaccurate readings: Ensure the sensor is clean and unobstructed. Verify that the correct measurement unit (Lux/FC) is selected. Ensure the device is used within its specified operating environment.
  • Display is dim or flickering: Replace batteries. If the issue persists, contact support.
  • Buttons are unresponsive: Try turning the device off and on again. If the issue continues, replace batteries.
