5. Installation

5.1. Mounting the Intercom Unit

The EJEAS Q8 can be mounted to your helmet using either a snap clip or a back clip, depending on your helmet type and preference.

1. Snap Clip Installation: Secure the snap clip to the edge of your helmet.
2. Back Clip Installation: Attach the back clip using adhesive or screws to a flat surface on your helmet.
3. Slide the Q8 intercom unit onto the chosen clip until it clicks securely into place.

5.2. Headphone Installation

Follow these steps to install the headphones and microphone inside your helmet:

1. After installing the host, plug in the headphones.
2. Peel off the Velcro tape on the headphones and glue them to the inner ear position of the helmet.
3. Attach a high-speed headphone cover (if desired).
4. Peel off the Velcro tape on the microphone.
5. Inside the helmet, position the microphone approximately at cheek level.
6. Position the microphone so that it is just inside the helmet, next to your mouth.

The Q8 headphones are equipped with high-speed ear cups that can be detached. You can remove them to adapt to your helmet's specific conditions, ensuring clear sound even at speed.

6. Initial Setup

6.1. Charging the Device

Before first use, fully charge your EJEAS Q8 using the provided Type-C USB charging cable and a DC5V/1A charger. The charging time is approximately 3 hours.

6.2. Mesh Function Activation

The Mesh function requires activation before use. Please scan the QR code provided in the product package with your phone to activate the device. Without activation, the Mesh function will not be available.

6.3. Bluetooth Pairing

To pair your Q8 with a mobile phone or another Bluetooth device:

1. Ensure the Q8 is powered off.
2. Press and hold the Power/Phone button until the indicator light flashes rapidly, indicating pairing mode.
3. On your mobile phone, search for Bluetooth devices and select 'EJEAS Q8'.
4. Once connected, the indicator light will change to a steady blue or slow flash.

7. Operation

7.1. Mesh Intercom

The Q8 utilizes Mesh 3.0 technology for group communication. Within effective distance (600-1000 meters for a 6-rider group), you can form groups freely. If one Q8 unit loses connection, it can automatically reconnect with other riders in the group. In listening mode, there is no limit to the number of listeners.

7.2. Mobile Network Intercom (5G/4G/3G)

For extended range, the Q8 supports mobile network intercom. After downloading the EJEAS app and connecting your Q8, one unit can create an intercom group for others to join. This feature has no user limit and offers a virtually unlimited intercom range (exceeding 5,000km) in areas with network coverage.

7.3. Interconnecting with Other Brands

The EJEAS Q8 is designed to interconnect with other brands of Bluetooth walkie-talkies on the market, expanding your communication possibilities.

7.4. Music Sharing

The Q8 supports music sharing between two riders. One mobile phone can play music, and two Q8 units can hear the same music. Note that this function cannot be used simultaneously with Bluetooth intercom.

7.5. Common Sound (Intercom, Music & FM)

The Q8 allows for simultaneous intercom, music, and FM radio. When FM is turned on, it can be heard concurrently in Mesh Intercom mode. If the Q8 is successfully paired with a mobile phone via Bluetooth, both FM and music can be heard at the same time in Mesh Intercom mode.

7.6. Voice Assistant Activation (VOX)

The Q8 supports voice assistant activation. When your phone is powered on, long-press the EJEAS key for three seconds to quickly wake up your mobile phone's voice assistant (e.g., Siri). This allows for voice intelligent control of music, navigation, calls, and other operations.

7.7. Channel Switching

In situations with affected signals, you can switch between channels (Channel 1-5, default is Channel 1) to achieve better sound quality. There are 5 channels in total. Short-press the Intercom key + Volume + key / Volume - key to switch channels forward or backward. Ensure all team members are on the same channel to communicate.

8. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
• Water Resistance: The Q8 is IP67 waterproof, meaning it can withstand rain and can work normally for about 30 minutes in water up to 1 meter deep. However, avoid prolonged submersion or high-pressure water jets.
• Temperature: Operate and store the device within the specified working temperature range of -10°C to 50°C.
• Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the device in a cool, dry place and ensure it is fully charged periodically to maintain battery health.

9. Troubleshooting

Q: Why can't I use the MESH function?

A: The MESH function requires activation. If the device is not activated, you will be unable to use it. Please scan the QR code in the product package with your phone to activate the device before use.

A: Environmental factors such as tunnels, steep slopes, buildings, and high traffic can influence intercom distance. In open environments, the distance can reach up to 800-1000 meters. Ensure there are no major obstructions and consider switching channels if signals are affected.

Q: Can I use my own Bluetooth noise-cancelling earphones instead of the supplied speakers?

A: The EJEAS Q8 is designed to work optimally with its supplied speakers and microphone for integrated helmet use. While it supports Bluetooth 5.1 for phone connection and other brand intercoms, compatibility with third-party Bluetooth earphones for direct audio output from the Q8 unit may vary and is not guaranteed for all features.

10. User Tips

• Always ensure your Q8 unit is fully charged before a long ride to maximize intercom and music time.
• For optimal sound clarity during Mesh intercom, ensure all riders in your group are on the same communication channel.
• Take advantage of the voice assistant feature for hands-free control of your phone's functions while riding.
• When riding in challenging weather, trust the IP67 rating, but remember to clean and dry the unit thoroughly afterward.
