4. Setup
4.1. Physical Installation
- Placement: Position the HeliaLux SmartControl unit in a dry, accessible location near your aquarium and HeliaLux light unit(s). Ensure it is not exposed to water splashes.
- Connection: Connect the HeliaLux SmartControl to your HeliaLux light unit(s). If controlling two lights, use a compatible HeliaLux splitter (sold separately). Ensure all connections are secure.
- Power On: Plug the SmartControl unit into a power outlet. The indicator lights on the unit will illuminate.
4.2. Initial WiFi Setup (Access Point Mode)
- The SmartControl will initially broadcast its own WiFi network (Access Point Mode).
- On your mobile phone, tablet, or PC, search for and connect to the SmartControl's WiFi network. The network name will typically be 'HeliaLux SmartControl' followed by a unique identifier.
- Open a web browser and navigate to the default IP address (e.g.,
192.168.4.1). This address is often indicated in the device's quick start guide or on the unit itself. - Follow the on-screen instructions to configure the device. This may include setting a password and connecting the SmartControl to your home WiFi network for broader access and easier control.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Accessing the User Interface
Once the SmartControl is connected to your network (either directly via its Access Point Mode or through your home WiFi), open a web browser on your device and enter the SmartControl's IP address to access the user interface.
5.2. Status Indicators and Buttons
- Network Indicator: Displays the current WiFi connection status (e.g., 'WiFi connected', 'Access Point Mode', 'Connecting to WiFi').
- Status Indicator: Shows the overall operational status of the device.
- Restarting Indicator: Illuminates when the device is in the process of restarting.
- Mode Button: Used to activate Service Mode (press for 3 seconds) or other operational modes.
- Reboot Button: Initiates a restart of the SmartControl unit.
- Reset Button: Press once for 3 seconds to enter Service Mode. Press once for 10 seconds to revert to Access Point Mode.
5.3. Programming Daily Routines
Navigate to the "Profiles" or "Weekdays" section within the user interface. Here you can:
- Program up to 16 distinct lighting phases for each day.
- Set specific times for dawn, sunrise, daylight, sunset, and dusk.
- Adjust light intensity and color for each phase.
- Define a midday break with desired light intensity and duration.
- Customize moonlight settings using the freely adjustable color channels.

5.4. Color Control
In the programming interface, access the color channel controls to fine-tune your aquarium's lighting:
- For HeliaLux Spectrum lights, adjust White, Red, Green, and Blue channels independently.
- For HeliaLux LED lights, adjust White and Blue channels independently.

5.5. Live Preview
While programming, use the "Live Preview" function to see the immediate effect of your settings on the aquarium lighting. This feature makes it comfortable to fine-tune your desired lighting profiles in real-time.

5.6. Service Mode
To activate Service Mode, press the "Mode" button on the SmartControl unit for 3 seconds. This will set the light to 100% intensity for 60 minutes, providing optimal conditions for aquarium maintenance. To exit Service Mode, press the "Mode" button again or wait for the 60 minutes to expire.

6. Maintenance
- Device Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the SmartControl unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water.
- Aquarium Maintenance: Utilize the "Service Mode" feature (as described in section 5.6) to provide consistent, bright lighting during tasks such as water changes, plant trimming, or cleaning. This ensures clear visibility and reduces stress on aquatic inhabitants due to fluctuating light.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Power: Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the SmartControl unit and a working power outlet. Check the indicator lights on the unit.
- No WiFi Connection:
- If the "Network" indicator shows "Access Point Mode", connect directly to the SmartControl's WiFi network.
- If trying to connect via your home WiFi, ensure the SmartControl is within range of your router and correctly configured with your network credentials.
- Try pressing the "Reboot" button on the unit.
- To force the unit back into Access Point Mode, press the "Reset" button for 10 seconds.
- Lights Not Responding:
- Check all cable connections between the SmartControl and the HeliaLux light unit(s).
- Ensure the HeliaLux light units are compatible and correctly connected.
- Verify that the programming profile is active and correctly configured in the user interface.
- Try rebooting the SmartControl unit.
