5. Operating Instructions

The FSESC6.9 supports various control modes and is fully programmable for diverse applications.

Control Modes:

  • Current Control Mode: Regulates the motor current.
  • Duty Cycle Control Mode: Controls the motor by adjusting the PWM duty cycle.
  • Speed Control Mode: Maintains a desired motor speed.
  • Position Control Mode: Controls the motor to reach a specific position.

Programming and Configuration:

The FSESC6.9 is programmable via the USB port using the VESC_TOOL software. This allows for detailed configuration of motor parameters, control modes, and safety limits.

Regenerative Braking:

The ESC supports regenerative braking, which allows energy to be returned to the battery during deceleration, improving efficiency and extending battery life.

IMU Module Support:

The FSESC6.9 supports the function of balancing cars by connecting an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) module through the IIC interface. Compatible IMU modules include MPU9250, MPU9150, MPU6050, LSM6DS3, and BMI160.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your FSESC6.9, consider the following maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly inspect the ESC for dust, dirt, or debris. Clean gently with a soft, dry brush or compressed air.
  • Check Connections: Periodically verify that all wiring connections are secure and free from corrosion or damage. Loose connections can lead to poor performance or component failure.
  • Thermal Management: Ensure adequate airflow around the heatsink, especially during high-load operations, to prevent overheating.
  • Storage: Store the ESC in a dry, cool environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

The FSESC6.9 incorporates several protection functions to safeguard the unit and connected components. Understanding these can help in basic troubleshooting:

Protection Functions:

  • Low Voltage Protection: The ESC will reduce power or shut down if the battery voltage drops below a configurable threshold. Check battery charge and health.
  • High Voltage Protection: Protects against overvoltage. Ensure your battery voltage does not exceed 60V, especially during regenerative braking.
  • Over-Current Protection: Limits current draw to prevent damage from excessive loads. Check for motor shorts or mechanical binding.
  • Temperature Abnormality Protection: Monitors internal temperature. If the ESC becomes too hot, it will reduce power or shut down. Ensure proper cooling and avoid excessive loads.
  • MOSFETs Over-Temperature Protection: Specifically monitors the temperature of the MOSFETs. Similar to general temperature protection, this indicates excessive heat.

If you encounter issues, first check all wiring connections, power supply, and motor for any obvious faults. Utilize the VESC_TOOL software to diagnose errors and review real-time data.

8. User Tips

  • Always perform a motor detection and calibration using VESC_TOOL after initial setup or changing motors.
  • Start with conservative settings in VESC_TOOL and gradually increase parameters as you become familiar with the ESC's performance.
  • Monitor temperatures during initial runs, especially under load, to ensure adequate cooling.
  • Keep the firmware updated to the latest version for optimal performance and bug fixes.
