2. General Safety Information
Always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.
2.1 Work Area Safety
- Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
2.2 Electrical Safety
- Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
2.3 Personal Safety
- Always wear eye protection. Use safety glasses or goggles.
- Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts.
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool.
- Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.
2.4 Tool Use and Care
- Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application.
- Disconnect the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
- Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool.

6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Powering On/Off and Speed Control
- To turn the tool ON, depress the trigger switch.
- To turn the tool OFF, release the trigger switch.
- The tool features a stepless speed adjustable trigger. The speed of the tool is controlled by the amount of pressure applied to the trigger switch.
6.2 Speed Selection
The drill has a 2-speed gearbox, allowing you to select the appropriate speed for your task:
- Gear 1 (Low Speed, 0-600rpm): Provides higher torque, ideal for driving screws and drilling larger holes in tough materials.
- Gear 2 (High Speed, 0-1900rpm): Provides higher speed, ideal for drilling smaller holes and faster drilling in softer materials.
To change the speed, use the speed selector switch located on top of the drill. Ensure the tool is stopped before changing gears.
6.3 Torque Adjustment (Clutch Settings)
The torque adjustment collar allows you to set the amount of torque before the clutch disengages. This prevents overtightening screws and stripping screw heads or damaging the workpiece.
- Rotate the torque adjustment collar to select one of the 15 torque settings for driving screws.
- The higher the number, the greater the torque. Start with a lower setting and increase as needed.
- For drilling, set the collar to the drill symbol (usually the highest setting) to bypass the clutch and provide maximum power.

6.4 Drilling and Driving
The Stanley SBD710 is suitable for both drilling and driving applications:
- Drilling: Select the appropriate drill bit for the material and hole size. Set the torque collar to the drill symbol. Use high speed for smaller holes and softer materials, low speed for larger holes and harder materials. Apply steady, even pressure.
- Driving Screws: Select the appropriate screwdriver bit. Set the torque collar to a suitable setting for the screw size and material. Use low speed for better control.

8. Troubleshooting
8.1 Common Issues and Solutions
- Tool not starting:
- Ensure the battery pack is fully charged and properly inserted.
- Check if the forward/reverse selector is in the neutral (locked) position.
- Loss of power during operation:
- The battery may be low. Recharge the battery pack.
- The tool might be overloaded. Reduce pressure or use a lower speed/higher torque setting.
- Bit slipping in chuck:
- Ensure the chuck is tightened securely around the bit.
- Check if the bit shank is clean and free of debris.
- Use bits with appropriate shank size for the 13mm chuck.
- Tool overheating:
- Allow the tool to cool down.
- Ensure ventilation slots are clear of dust and debris.
- Avoid continuous heavy-duty use without breaks.
9. User Tips
- Battery Compatibility: The Stanley SBD710 is part of the Stanley V20 Lithium-Ion PowerShare platform. This means it is designed to be compatible with genuine Stanley V20 batteries and chargers. If you own other Stanley V20 cordless tools, their batteries should work with this drill.
- Optimal Torque Setting: For driving screws, always start with a lower torque setting and gradually increase it until the screw is driven flush without stripping the head or damaging the material. This prolongs the life of your bits and prevents workpiece damage.
- Use the LED Light: Don't forget to utilize the built-in LED light, especially when working in shadowed areas or inside cabinets, to improve visibility and accuracy.
- Brushless Advantage: The brushless motor not only provides more power and runtime but also requires less maintenance compared to brushed motors, as there are no carbon brushes to replace.
