5.2. Offline Clone Function

The offline clone function allows you to duplicate data from a source disk to one or more target disks without connecting to a computer. This is useful for creating backups or upgrading drives.

  1. Disconnect USB: Ensure the USB cable is disconnected from your computer.
  2. Insert Drives: Insert the source hard drive into the "Source" bay (usually the first bay). Insert one or more target drives into the "Target" bays.
  3. Target Drive Capacity: The capacity of each target drive must be equal to or larger than the source drive.
  4. Set Switch: Push the PC/CLONE switch on the back of the hard drive dock to the "CLONE" side.
  5. Connect Power: Connect the power supply and press the POWER switch to turn on the device.
  6. Start Cloning: Press the START button on the back of the device twice quickly.
  7. Monitor Progress: A blue LED will flash on the 20% indicator, signifying that the cloning process has begun. The LEDs will progressively light up (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%) as the cloning progresses.
  8. Cloning Complete: The cloning process is complete when ALL the lights turn solid blue (20%-100%). The device will beep 3 times, and the hard drives will enter Sleep Mode.
  9. Eject Drives: Finally, press the POWER switch to turn off the device and safely eject your drives.
Offline Clone function with 16TB capacity
The docking station supports offline cloning up to 16TB per drive, with dimensions W 217 x D 142 x H 80 mm (W 8.54 x D 5.59 x H 3.14 in).

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the device in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and moisture.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.
  • Clean the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the device to prevent overheating, especially during prolonged operation or cloning. The vertical heat dissipation design aids in this.
  • Always safely eject or power off the device before removing hard drives or disconnecting cables to prevent data loss or drive damage.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Drives not recognized by PC:
    • Ensure the PC/CLONE switch is set to "PC".
    • Check all cable connections (USB and power).
    • For new hard drives, they may need to be initialized and formatted. Right-click "Computer" (or "This PC"), select "Manage" > "Disk Management". Locate the new disk, initialize it (MBR for 2TB and below, GPT for above 2TB), and create a new simple volume.
    • If multiple disks are inserted and one is offline due to drive letter conflict, in "Disk Management", right-click the offline disk and select "Online".
  • Offline Clone fails or does not start:
    • Ensure the USB cable is disconnected from the computer. The clone function is standalone.
    • Verify that the target disk's capacity is equal to or larger than the source disk's capacity.
    • Make sure the PC/CLONE switch is set to "CLONE".
    • Ensure you press the START button twice quickly to initiate the cloning process.
    • Any data on the target disk will be overwritten. Ensure you have backed up any important data from the target disk before cloning.
  • Slow transfer speeds:
    • Ensure you are using a USB 3.0 port on your computer and the provided USB 3.0 cable.
    • Verify that your operating system and drivers support USB 3.0 and UASP protocol.

8. User Tips

  • New Hard Drive Formatting: For new hard drives that are not yet formatted, you will need to initialize and format them through your operating system's Disk Management utility. Choose MBR format for disks 2TB and below, and GPT for disks above 2TB.
  • Offline Clone Duration: The time required for a standalone copy (offline clone) depends on the performance and capacity of the source disk. For example, a 500GB HDD typically takes about 1.5 hours. The process will beep 3 times and enter Sleep Mode upon completion.
  • Multiple Disk Cloning: This docking station supports cloning from one source disk to up to three target disks simultaneously in offline clone mode.
