Instruction Manual: Open Fire Smoke Flash Unit for Heng Long RC Tanks

Model: TH19340 | Brand: TOUCAN RC HOBBY

1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation and operation of the Open Fire Smoke Flash Unit, designed for 1/16 scale Heng Long RC Tanks with 6.0S, 6.1S, 7.0, and 7.1 main boards. Please read these instructions carefully before installation to ensure proper function and safety.

The unit simulates muzzle flash and smoke effects, enhancing the realism of your RC tank model. Two installation methods are covered, depending on whether your tank is equipped with an electric slip ring for 360-degree turret rotation.

2. Safety Precautions

  • Always disconnect the tank's power source before performing any installation or maintenance.
  • Handle electronic components with care to avoid damage from static electricity.
  • Ensure all connections are secure to prevent short circuits.
  • Keep small parts away from children.
  • Use only the specified voltage and power sources for the unit.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:

  • 1x Smoke Flash Unit (main module with pump and wiring)
  • 1x Set of connection cables (specific to tank version and slip ring type)
  • 1x Bag of small parts (screws, brass fittings, etc.)
  • 1x Silicone tube
  • 1x Small bottle (for smoke fluid, fluid not included)

4. Installation Guide

There are two primary installation methods depending on your tank's turret rotation mechanism:

4.1. Installation for Tanks WITHOUT Electric Slip Ring (340-degree turret rotation)

This method is for tanks that do not have an electric slip ring, typically allowing for 340-degree turret rotation. Follow the steps demonstrated in Video 1.

Video 1: Installation for tanks without an electric slip ring, demonstrating wiring and function.
  1. Connect the small 2-pin connector from the smoke unit to the corresponding port on the tank's main board (TK-6.0S shown in video).
  2. Connect the 2-pin power cable (red and black wires) from the smoke unit to the designated power output on the main board.
  3. Connect the muzzle flash LED wires to the appropriate output on the main board.
  4. Attach the silicone tube from the smoke pump to the smoke outlet on the tank's barrel.
  5. Ensure all connections are secure.
  6. Test the unit using the RC transmitter. Activate the smoke function and observe the smoke and muzzle flash effects.
  7. Adjust the smoke output by turning the small screw on the smoke unit's circuit board (as shown in the video). Turn clockwise to increase smoke, counter-clockwise to decrease.

4.2. Installation for Tanks WITH Electric Slip Ring (360-degree turret rotation)

This method is for tanks equipped with an electric slip ring, allowing for full 360-degree continuous turret rotation. This requires using the provided extra cables. Follow the steps demonstrated in Video 2.

Video 2: Installation for tanks with an electric slip ring, demonstrating wiring and function.
  1. Identify the electric slip ring assembly within your tank's turret.
  2. Connect the smoke unit's wiring harness to the designated ports on the electric slip ring's circuit board. Pay close attention to the color-coded wires and their corresponding pins.
  3. Connect the muzzle flash LED wires to the appropriate output on the slip ring's circuit board.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed, the Open Fire Smoke Flash Unit is controlled via your tank's RC transmitter. Refer to your tank's specific transmitter manual for button assignments related to smoke and muzzle flash functions.

  • Power On: Turn on your RC transmitter first, then power on the tank.
  • Smoke Function: Typically activated by a dedicated button or switch on the transmitter. Ensure smoke fluid is present in the reservoir for smoke production.
  • Muzzle Flash: Activated automatically when the main gun is fired via the transmitter.
  • Smoke Volume Adjustment: As shown in the installation videos, a small screw on the smoke unit's circuit board allows for fine-tuning the smoke output.

6. Maintenance

  • Smoke Fluid: Regularly check the smoke fluid level. Refill as needed using appropriate RC smoke fluid. Do not use other liquids as this may damage the pump or heating element.
  • Cleaning: Keep the smoke outlet and surrounding areas clean from debris.
  • Connections: Periodically check all electrical connections for tightness and signs of wear.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, ensure the smoke fluid reservoir is empty or the unit is stored in a cool, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
