3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
The ANENG DM850 requires a 9V battery (6F22 type) for operation. The battery is not always included in the package.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the multimeter.
- Use a screwdriver to unscrew the battery compartment cover.
- Insert a 9V battery, ensuring the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals are correctly aligned.
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

WARNING: To avoid electrical shock, always remove test leads from the circuit before opening the battery compartment.
4. Operating Instructions
General Safety Precaution: Always ensure the multimeter is set to the correct function and range before making any measurements. Verify test leads are in good condition and properly connected. Do not exceed the maximum input values for any range.
4.1 AC Voltage Measurement
- Turn the function dial to the AC voltage range (V~).
- Insert the red test probe into the VΩmA jack and the black test probe into the COM jack.
- Carefully insert the tips of the probes into the AC outlet or across the AC source to measure the voltage.
- Read the voltage value on the LCD screen.

4.2 DC Voltage Measurement
- Turn the function dial to the DC voltage range (V=).
- Insert the red test probe into the VΩmA jack and the black test probe into the COM jack.
- Connect the red probe to the positive (+) side and the black probe to the negative (-) side of the DC source.
- Read the voltage value on the LCD screen.

4.3 Diode Measurement
- Turn the function dial to the Diode position (diode symbol).
- Insert the red test probe into the VΩmA jack and the black test probe into the COM jack.
- Connect the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode. The display will show the forward voltage drop.
- Reverse the probes. For a healthy diode, the display should show 'OL' (Open Line) in reverse bias.

4.4 On-Off Beep Detection (Continuity)
- Turn the function dial to the continuity position (with beep symbol).
- Insert the red test probe into the VΩmA jack and the black test probe into the COM jack.
- Touch the test probes together; a beep indicates continuity.
- Place the probes across the circuit or component to test for continuity. A beep and an illuminated LED light indicate a connected circuit.

4.5 Resistance Measurement
- Turn the function dial to the Resistance range (Ω).
- Insert the red test probe into the VΩmA jack and the black test probe into the COM jack.
- Connect the test probes across the component to measure its resistance.
- Read the resistance value on the LCD screen.
WARNING: Ensure the component is de-energized before measuring resistance.

4.6 Triode Measurement (hFE)
- Turn the function dial to the hFE position.
- Insert the transistor leads (Emitter, Base, Collector) into the corresponding holes in the triode socket.
- The display will show the hFE value, indicating if the transistor is PNP or NPN type.

4.7 DC Current Measurement
WARNING: Do NOT directly contact current like measuring voltage. Direct contact will burn out the instrument! Always connect the multimeter in series to the circuit.
- Turn the function dial to the appropriate DC Current range (A=, mA, or uA).
- For higher currents (up to 10A), insert the red test probe into the 10A jack. For lower currents (mA/uA), insert the red test probe into the VΩmA jack. The black test probe always goes into the COM jack.
- Open the circuit where you want to measure current and connect the multimeter in series.
- Read the current value on the LCD screen.

4.8 1.5V Current Measurement (Battery Detection)
- Turn the function dial to the 1.5V mA position.
- Insert the red test probe into the VΩmA jack and the black test probe into the COM jack.
- Connect the probes to the battery terminals (red to positive, black to negative).
- The display will show the current, which can indicate the battery's charge status (e.g., current not less than 3.8mA when the battery is charged).

4.9 Data Hold
- During any measurement, press the 'HOLD' button.
- The current reading on the display will freeze, allowing for easy recording.
- Press the 'HOLD' button again to release the data hold and resume live measurements.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Keep the multimeter clean and dry. Wipe the casing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage. Store the multimeter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery promptly when the low battery indicator appears on the LCD screen to ensure accurate measurements.
- Test Leads: Regularly inspect the test leads for any signs of damage, such as cracks in the insulation or exposed wires. Replace damaged leads immediately.
7. Troubleshooting
- Multimeter not powering on or displaying readings:
- Ensure the 9V battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
- Check that the function dial is set to an active measurement range and not 'OFF'.
- Incorrect or unstable readings:
- Verify that the test leads are securely connected to both the multimeter and the circuit under test.
- Ensure the function dial is set to the appropriate measurement type and range for the value being measured.
- Check for external interference or poor contact with the circuit.
- No sound during continuity test:
- Confirm the function dial is set to the continuity position (with beep symbol).
- Check if the test leads are properly connected and not damaged.
- Multimeter burned out during current measurement:
- This typically occurs if the multimeter was connected in parallel (like voltage measurement) instead of in series for current measurement. Always connect in series.
- Ensure the correct current range and input jack (10A or VΩmA) were selected for the expected current.
8. User Tips
- The continuity test feature is noted by users as being instant and responsive, which is helpful for quick circuit checks.
- It is recommended to have a spare 9V battery on hand, as the multimeter does not always come with one, and it's essential for operation.
- The device is generally praised for its good performance and value for money.
