Setup
1. Binding Procedure
To establish communication between your FTr16S receiver and a compatible AFHDS 3 transmitter (e.g., PL18), follow these general steps:
- Ensure your transmitter is powered on and set to binding mode according to its specific instructions.
- Power on the FTr16S receiver while simultaneously holding down the bind button located on the receiver board.
- Observe the receiver's LED indicator. It should change state (e.g., stop flashing or turn solid) to indicate successful binding.
- Release the bind button. Power cycle both the receiver and the transmitter. The receiver should now be successfully bound and ready for operation.
2. Wiring Diagram
Refer to the diagram below for proper connection of the FTr16S receiver to your flight controller or other components. Ensure correct polarity for power connections (VCC and GND).

- VCC: Voltage input (3.5 - 8.4V)
- PPM: Standard PPM signal output
- i-BUS: i-bus and s-bus supported data output
- SENS: Sensor port
- GND: Ground connection
3. Compatibility
The FTr16S receiver is designed for broad compatibility within the FLYSKY AFHDS 3 ecosystem. It is compatible with the PL18 transmitter and all AFHDS 3 transmitters and FRM302 RF modules.

Operating Instructions
Once successfully bound and wired, the FTr16S receiver will process control signals from your compatible AFHDS 3 transmitter and output them to your RC drone's flight controller. The receiver supports standard PPM, i-BUS, and s.BUS outputs. You will need to configure your flight controller software to match the signal type used by the receiver and ensure proper channel mapping for your control surfaces and functions.
Always perform a range check before flying to ensure reliable communication between your transmitter and receiver.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Keep the receiver clean and free from dust, dirt, and moisture. Use a soft, dry brush or compressed air to gently clean the board.
- Environmental Conditions: Avoid exposing the receiver to extreme temperatures, high humidity, or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
- Antenna Inspection: Regularly inspect the antenna connections and wires for any signs of damage, kinks, or fraying. Ensure the antennas are securely attached.
- Physical Damage: Handle the receiver with care. Do not attempt to open the receiver casing or modify its internal components, as this may void the warranty and cause irreparable damage.
Troubleshooting
- No Signal or Loss of Connection:
- Verify that both the transmitter and receiver are powered on.
- Re-check the binding procedure to ensure the receiver is correctly linked to the transmitter.
- Inspect antenna placement; ensure they are not obstructed by carbon fiber or metal parts and are positioned optimally.
- Check for potential 2.4GHz interference from other electronic devices.
- Incorrect Control Response:
- Confirm that the receiver is correctly wired to the flight controller, paying attention to signal and power pins.
- Verify the channel mapping and selected signal type (PPM/i-BUS/s.BUS) in your flight controller software matches the receiver's output.
User Tips
- Optimal Antenna Placement: For the best possible range and signal reliability, position the dual antennas at a 90-degree angle to each other. This configuration helps to minimize signal blocking and provides superior signal diversity, especially crucial in dynamic flight environments. Avoid placing antennas directly against or parallel to large carbon fiber or metal components of your drone.
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check the official FLYSKY website for any available firmware updates for your FTr16S receiver. Firmware updates can introduce new features, improve performance, and address potential bugs, ensuring your receiver operates with the latest optimizations.
