ZOOM TCA-1 Timecode Adapter

• Always format microSD cards on the recorder you are using after purchasing them new or using them with a different device.

Firmware update process

1. Download the firmware update file.
2. Extract the ZIP file.
3. Copy the extracted firmware update file to a microSD card.
4. Update the firmware.
5. Confirm that the firmware has been updated correctly

Updating the Firmware

This guide explains firmware update to version 1.10 as an example.

Download the firmware update file
Download the ZIP file that contains the firmware update file from the TCA-1 download page.

On Windows

Extract the ZIP file
Select the folder that contains the downloaded ZIP file. Click ①“Compressed Folder Tools” and then click ② “Extract all”. This extracts the ZIP file.

Copy the firmware update file to a microSD card.
Copy the “TCA-1.bin” file to a microSD card.

On macOS

Extract the ZIP file.

• After downloading, open the ①“Downloads” folder which appears at the right end of the Dock by default. Then, click ②. Downloaded files will be shown

• Copy the firmware update file to a microSD card.
• Copy the “TCA-1.bin” file to a microSD card.

The following procedures are the same on both Windows and macOS.

• For the H2essential
• For the H4essential and H6essential
• For the H5studio and H6studio
• For the F3

For the H2essential

1. Insert the microSD card into the recorder and turn the power on. The Home Screen will appear.
2. Press the (menu) button when the Home Screen is open. The Menu Screen will appear.
3. Use (operation button 2)／ (operation button 3) to select “Timecode (TCA-1)” and press (operation button 4) to confirm.
   
4. Use  (operation button 2)／ (operation button 3) to select “Firmware (TCA-1)” and press (operation button 4) to confirm.
5. Press UPDATE (operation button 4).
6. Use  (operation button 2) ／ (operation button 3) to select “Execute” and press (operation button 4) to confirm.
   • The update will start, and a completion screen will appear after about 5 seconds.
     [NOTE]
   • During the firmware update, do not turn the power off or remove the microSD card.
   • If the update fails, turn the power off once and confirm that the microSD card is loaded correctly. Then, turn the power on and try updating again.
7. Confirm that the firmware version has been updated to v1.10.

For the H4essential and H6essential

1. Insert the microSD card into the recorder and turn the power on. The Home Screen will appear.
2. On the Home Screen, use the (selection) dial to select “SYSTEM” and press the (ENTER) button. This opens the System Settings Screen.
3. Use the  (selection) dial to select “Timecode (TCA-1)” and press the (ENTER) button
4. Use the  (selection) dial to select “Firmware (TCA-1)” and press the (ENTER) button.
5. Select “Firmware Update” and press the (ENTER)  button.
6. Use  the (selection) dial to select “Execute” and press the (ENTER) button.
   • The update will start, and a completion screen will appear after about 5 seconds.

   • During the firmware update, do not turn the power off or remove the microSD card.
   • If the update fails, turn the power off once and confirm that the microSD card is loaded correctly. Then, turn the power on and try updating again.
7. Confirm that the firmware version has been updated to v1.10.

For the H5studio and H6studio

1. Insert the microSD card into the recorder and turn the power on. The Home Screen will appear.
2. On the Home Screen, use the (selection) dial to select “SYSTEM”  and press the (ENTER) button. This opens the System Settings Screen.
3. Use the  (selection) dial to select “Timecode (TCA-1)” and press the (ENTER) button.
4. Use the  (selection) dial to select “Firmware (TCA-1)” and press the (ENTER) button.
5. Select “Firmware Update” and press the (ENTER) button.
6. Use the (selection) dial to select “Execute” and press the (ENTER) button.
   • The update will start, and a completion screen will appear after about 5 seconds.

For the F3

1. Insert the microSD card into the recorder and turn the power on. The Home Screen will appear.
2. Press . The Menu Screen will appear.
3. Use ／ to select “Timecode enter)” and press to confirm.
4. Use ／ to select “Firmware (ENTER” and press to confirm.
5. Press  .
6. Use ／ to select “Execute” and press to confirm.
   • The update will start, and a completion screen will appear after about 5 seconds.
     [NOTE]
   • During the firmware update, do not turn the power off or remove the microSD card.
   • If the update fails, turn the power off once and confirm that the microSD card is loaded correctly. Then, turn the power on and try updating again.
7. Confirm that the firmware version has been updated to v1.10.
