WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A WHIRLY BIRD?
The Whirly Bird has a surprising number of uses in many situations. The first version of the Whirly Bird was designed for use on the golf course, where you can use it to do the following:
- Use it to determine the direction of the wind at any moment on the course. It will always reliably show what is going on with the wind, and you’ll never have to grab a chunk of grass from the fairway and throw it up in the air. Course superintendents will love that you are not ripping up their grass anymore.
- Place the boom on your club face to check your lie and loft angle. The Whirly Bird eliminates the need to buy a special device for this purpose.
WHIRLY BIRD ASSEMBLY & SETUP
Your Whirly Bird should have arrived safely in our packaging. There are a few parts to the Whirly Bird, and they are listed below:

There is only one step to assembling the Whirly Bird:
Remove the tail from the packaging and carefully insert it into the slot at the rear of the bird. The fit is snug, so be careful not bend or break the tail or the bird when doing this.
Once the bird is ready, you’ll want to pair it to the boom magnet. If you get them close to each other, they will pair themselves. Be careful, the magnets or strong and sometimes parts go flying. (See Warnings at the end of this manual. Seriously, magnets can be dangerous)
WHIRLY PRO PROPER USE
- The best use of the Whirly Bird is to get the direction of the wind where you have it positioned. The Whirly Bird is a special wind vane designed for golfers specifically. The bird points its nose in the direction the wind is coming from, and the tail is at the back end of that. When the wind changes direction, it hits the tail, and the tail lines the bird up to face the wind. It’s quite simple.
- The wind can come from any direction, and it can change moment to moment as well. Read the position and activity from the Whirly Bird to adjust your shot before you swing your club.
- For example, in the case where the wind is blowing hard from the right to left, then you may want to align more to the right to compensate or do some fancy shot-shaping to accommodate the wind.
- Wind in your face should have you consider taking more club and/or hitting a knock-down shot to compensate for the wind.
- When the wind is at your back, the best advice is to just swing out of your shoes and hit it high if you can.
- Don’t blame the Whirly Bird for any mishits but be sure to give it credit for any great shots you hit.
- The Whirly Bird does not currently provide any sense of the strength of the wind, but it does give some clues. When it moves quickly, that indicates more wind than not. Most of you can get a sense of the wind strength from your skin – you can feel when there is more wind pressure than not.
- The reality of using the Whirly Bird is that it can only give readings where it is located. If your cart is parked 30 yards away, you are not going to get wind direction where you are standing or wind direction in the middle of the fairway.
- One option is to attach the bird to the face of your club and hold it up level and get a reading basically anywhere, and the other option to remember what Sargent Hulka said in the movie “Stripes” – “Lighten up Francis”. The Whirly Bird is not perfect in every situation, but it does provide more information that can help your play.
WARNINGS
Please be careful when mounting the Whirly to your golf cart. The bird sticks out and it might be easy for someone to walk into it. The design is such that the bird will detach from the boom when pressure is applied but be careful always. This product uses Neodymium Magnets which are the strongest, most powerful magnets on earth.
Here are some Safety and Handling Tips:

| Keep neodymium magnets away from anyone with a pacemaker | Neodymium magnets create strong magnetic fields around them, which can interfere with pacemakers, ICDs and other implanted medical devices. This is because many of these devices are made with a feature that deactivates the device in a magnetic
field. |
| Keep neodymium magnets away from magnetic media | The strong magnetic fields emanating from neodymium magnets can damage magnetic media such as credit cards, magnetic ID cards, cassette tapes, video tapes or other such devices. They can also damage older televisions, VCRs, computer
monitors, and CRT displays. If you are playing golf with a VCR or CRT there is something wrong. |
| Keep neodymium magnets away from your GPS and smartphone. | Magnetic fields interfere with compasses or magnetometers used in navigation for air and sea transport, as well as the internal compasses of
smartphone and GPS devices. |
| Avoid contact with neodymium magnets if you have a nickel allergy | Studies show a small percentage of people suffer from an allergy to some metals including nickel. The allergic reaction is often manifested in redness and a skin rash. If you have a nickel allergy, try handling the Whirly Bird with your golf glove on, and stay
away from the magnets. |
