Important safety instructions

The applied nameplate is located at the bottom or rear of the product.
When using your telephone equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury, including the following:

1. This product should be installed by a qualified technician.
2. This product should only be connected to the host equipment and never directly to the network such as Public Switch zone Network (PSTN) or Plain Old Telephone Services (POTS).
3. Read and understand all instructions.
4. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the product.
5. Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
6. Do not use this product near water such as near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub or swimming pool, or in a wet basement or shower.
7. Do not place this product on an unstable table, shelf, stand or other unstable surfaces.

11. Never push objects of any kind into this product through the slots in the telephone base or handset because they may touch dangerous voltage points or create a short circuit. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.
12. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble this product, but take it to an authorized service facility. Opening or removing parts of the base station or handset other than specified access doors may expose you to dangerous voltages or other risks. Incorrect reassembling can cause electric shock when the product is subsequently used.

14. Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to an authorized service facility under the following conditions:

8. Slots and openings in the back or bottom of the telephone base and handset are provided for ventilation. To protect them from overheating, these openings must not be blocked by placing the product on a soft surface such as a bed, sofa or rug. This product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This product should not be placed in any area where proper ventilation is not provided.

15. Avoid using a telephone (other than cordless) during an electrical storm. There is a remote risk of electric shock from lightning.
16. Do not use the telephone to report a gas leak in the vicinity of the leak. Under certain circumstances, a spark may be created when the adapter is plugged into the power outlet, or when the handset is replaced in its cradle. This is a common event associated with the closing of any electrical circuit. The user should not plug the phone into a power outlet, and should not put a charged handset into the cradle, if the phone is located in an environment containing concentrations of flammable or flame-supporting gases, unless there is adequate ventilation. A spark in such an environment could create a fire or explosion. Such environments might include: medical use of oxygen without adequate ventilation; industrial gases (cleaning solvents; gasoline vapors; etc.); a leak of natural gas; etc.
17. Only put the handset of your telephone next to your ear when it is in normal talk mode.
18. The power adapters are intended to be correctly oriented in a vertical or floor mount position. The prongs are not designed to hold the plug in place if it is plugged into a ceiling, under-the-table or cabinet outlet.

20. In wall mounting position, make sure to mount the telephone base on the wall by aligning the eyelets with the mounting studs of the wall plate. Then slide the telephone base down on both mounting studs until it locks into place. Refer to the full instructions in Installation in the user’s manual.
21. This product should be mounted at a height of less than 2 meters.

Base station installation

This section assumes that your network infrastructure is established and that your IP PBX phone service has been ordered and configured for your location. For more information about IP PBX configuration, please refer to the SIP Phone Configuration Guide.
You can power the base station using a compatible VTech power adapter or using Power over Ethernet (PoE Class 2) from your network. If you are not using PoE, install the base station near a power outlet not controlled by a wall switch. The base station can be placed on a flat surface or mounted on a wall in a vertical or horizontal orientation.

To install the base station:

Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the

Ethernet port on the rear of the base station

(marked by

NET), and plug the other end

of the cable into your network router or switch.

If the base station is not using power from a PoE-capable network router or switch:

Connect the supplied power adapter to the base station power jack.

Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet that is not controlled by a wall switch.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1. Use only a compatible VTech power adapter. To order a replacement power adapter, call 1 888-907-2007.
2. The power adapter is intended to be correctly oriented in a vertical or floor mount position. The prongs are not designed to hold the plug in place if it is plugged into a ceiling, under-the-table or cabinet outlet.

To mount the base station on the wall
1. Install two mounting screws on the wall. Choose screws with heads larger than 5 mm (3/16 inch) in diameter (1 cm / 3/8 inch diameter maximum). The screw centers should be 5 cm (1 15/16 inches) apart vertically or horizontally.

4. Check to make sure the plate is secure at top and bottom. It should be flush with the base station body.
5. Place the base station over the mounting screws.

2. Tighten screws until only 3 mm (1/8 inch) of the screws are exposed.
3. Attach the mounting plate to the top of the base station. Insert the tab into the slot and then push the plate in at the bottom of the base station until the mounting plate clicks into place.

6. Connect the Ethernet cable and power as described on page 12.

Handset Charger Installation
Install the handset charger as shown below. · Make sure the supplied power adapter is securely plugged into an outlet not controlled by a wall switch.

Installation Notes
Avoid placing the base station, handset, or handset charger too close to:
· Communication devices such as television sets, DVD players, or other cordless telephones
· Excessive heat sources
· Noise sources such as a window with traffic outside, motors, microwave ovens, refrigerators, or fluorescent lighting
· Excessive dust sources such as a workshop or garage
· Excessive moisture
· Extremely low temperature
· Mechanical vibration or shock such as on top of a washing machine or work bench

· The battery is fully charged after 11 hours of continuous charging. For best performance, keep the handset in the handset charger when not in use.
CAUTIONS Use only the supplied power adapter. The supplied power adapter is not designed for use in any other devices. Misuse of it on your other devices shall be prohibited. To order a replacement, call 1-888-907-2007.

Handset Registration
Follow the steps below to register your cordless handset to the base station.
You can register additional cordless handsets to the base station. The Base station accommodates up to four NGC-C5106 or CTM-C4402 cordless handsets.
1. On the cordless handset, press the Lang soft key, and then the key sequence: 7 5 6 0 0 #.
The key sequence will not be displayed on the screen when entered.
2. With Registration selected, press OK.
3. With Register Handset selected, press Select.
The handset displays the message “Long press the FIND HANDSET button on your base”.
4. On the base station, press and hold the / FIND HANDSET button for at least four
seconds, then release the button. Both LEDs on the base station begin to flash.
The handset displays “Registering handset”.
5. If the handset prompts for the PIN, enter the PIN and press OK. The default PIN is 1592.
The handset beeps and displays “Handset registered”.

Handset Deregistration

1. When a registered cordless handset is idle, press the Lang soft key, and then the key sequence: 7 5 6 0 0 #.

The key sequence will not be displayed on the screen when entered.

2. With Registration selected, press OK.

3. Press

to select Deregister,

and then press Select.

4. Press or to select the handset you want to deregister, and then press Select.

NOTE: The handset you are currently using is indicated by **.

5. If the handset prompts for the PIN, enter the PIN and press OK. The default PIN is 1592.

The handset beeps and displays “HANDSET deregistered”.

Handset battery charging
The battery must be fully charged before using the cordless handset for the first time. The battery charge light turns on when the cordless handset is charging on the handset charger. The battery is fully charged after 11 hours of continuous charging. For best performance, keep the cordless handset in the handset charger when not in use.
Replacing a Cordless Handset Battery
The cordless handset battery is preinstalled. To replace the cordless handset battery, follow the steps below.
1. Use a narrow object to pry open the handset cover, so that you unsnap the tabs at the locations indicated below.

3. Place the top of the battery in the handset battery compartment so that the battery connectors are aligned.
4. Push the bottom of the battery down into the battery compartment.
5. To replace the handset cover, align all the tabs on the handset cover against the corresponding grooves on the handset, then firmly push downward until all the tabs lock in the grooves.
CAUTIONS
There may be a risk of explosion if a wrong type of handset battery is used. Use only the supplied rechargeable battery or replacement battery. To order a replacement, call 1-888-907-2007.
Dispose of used batteries according to the information in the instructions.

2. Place your thumb in the slot below the battery, and lift the battery out of the handset battery compartment.

Using the cordless handset
When you use the keypad of the cordless handset, the handset keys are backlit.

Change handset screen language
To change the display language of your handset color screen: 1. Press Lang. 2. Press or to select a language. 3. Press OK.

Receive a call
When there is an incoming call, the handset rings.

Answer a call using the cordless handset while it is not on the handset charger
On the cordless handset, press Ans or or .
· The icon appears in the middle of the screen when in speakerphone mode.

Answer a call using the cordless handset while it is cradled on the handset charger
Lift the cordless handset from the handset charger.

Reject a call

Press Reject or

2. Press or to select a speed dial entry.

Message waiting indicator
When a new voice message is received, the handset displays ” New msg” on the screen.

1. When the phone is idle, press .

Use this feature to find all registered cordless handsets.

To start paging:

· Unplug the Cat-5 network cable from the network wall jack. Wait for approximately 15 seconds, then plug it back in.

· Charge the battery in the cordless handset for up to 11 hours.

· If the battery is completely depleted, charge the battery for at least 30 minutes before use.

· Remove the battery and then install it again. If that still does not work, it may be necessary to purchase a new battery.

· Disconnect the base station from the network wall jack and connect a different working SIP telephone. If the other SIP telephone does not work, the problem is probably in the wiring or network server. Check your SIP server settings. Refer to the SIP Phone Configuration Guide for details.

Question 2. I cannot dial out.

Suggestions
· Try all the above suggestions.
· A prefix may be required for dialing some internal or external calls. Refer to the SIP Phone Configuration Guide for details.
· Check your SIP server settings. If other SIP telephones in your hotel are having the same problem, the problem is in the wiring or network server. Contact your telephone service provider (charges may apply).

3. The Speed Dial key does not work at all.

· The Speed Dial key may not be properly programmed. Refer to the SIP Phone Configuration Guide for details.

4. The telephone cannot register to the SIP network server.
5. The LOW BATTERY icon or the EXTREMELY LOW BATTERY icon appears at the top of the cordless handset screen.

· Make sure your network is providing Power over Ethernet (PoE).
· Make sure the initialization and system registration process completes.
· Disconnect the Cat-5 network cable from the network wall jack and connect it back into the network wall jack with Power over Ethernet (PoE) to start the initialization and system registration process again.
· Place the cordless handset in the handset charger for recharging.
· Remove the battery and then install it again, and use it until fully depleted. Then charge the cordless handset in the handset charger for up to 11 hours.
· If the above measures do not correct the problem, replace the battery.

6. The battery does not charge in the cordless handset or the battery does not accept charge.

Suggestions
· Make sure the cordless handset is placed in the handset charger correctly. The battery charging light should be on.
· Remove the battery and then install it again. Charge it for up to 11 hours.
· If the cordless handset is in the handset charger but the battery charging light is not on, refer to The battery charging light is off below.
· If the battery is completely depleted, charge the cordless handset for at least 30 minutes before use.
· If the above measures do not correct the problem, replace the battery.

7. The battery charging light is off.

· Clean the charging contacts on the cordless handset and/or handset charger each month with a pencil eraser or a dry non-abrasive fabric.
· Make sure the Cat-5 network cable is plugged in correctly and securely.
· Unplug the Cat-5 network cable. Wait for 15 seconds before plugging it back in.

· Other electronic products such as HAM radios and other DECT phones can cause interference with your cordless phone. Try installing your phone as far away as possible from these types of electronic devices.

12. I hear noise on the cordless handset and the keys do not work.

13. Common cure for electronic equipment.

· If the telephone is not responding normally, put the cordless handset in the handset charger. If it does not fix the problem, try the following (in the order listed):
A. Disconnect the power to the base station.
B. Disconnect the battery on the cordless handset.
C. Wait a few minutes before connecting power to the base station.
D. Install the battery again and then place the cordless handset in the handset charger.
E. Wait for the cordless handset to synchronize with the base station. Allow up to one minute for this to take place.

VTech will charge the end user at then-current prices for each of the missing items. 10. Except as provided by applicable law, you assume the risk of loss or damage during transit and transportation and are responsible for delivery or handling charges incurred in the transport of Product(s) to the service location. VTech’s authorized service representative will return repaired or replaced product under this limited warranty to you, transportation, delivery and handling charges prepaid. VTech assumes no risk for damage or loss of the Product in transit. If the Product failure is not covered by this limited warranty, or proof of purchase does not meet the terms of this limited warranty, VTech will notify you and will request that you authorize the cost of repair and return shipping costs for the repair of Products that not covered by this limited warranty. You must pay for the cost of repair and return shipping costs for the repair of Products that are not covered by this limited warranty.
Other limitations
This warranty is the complete and exclusive agreement between you and VTech. It supersedes all other written or oral communications related to this Product. VTech provides no other warranties for this Product, whether express or implied, oral or written, or statutory. The warranty exclusively describes all of VTech’s responsibilities regarding the Product. No one is authorized to make modifications to this warranty and you should not rely on any such modification. VTech’s liability to end user hereunder shall not exceed the purchase price of the Product. Precautions for users of implanted cardiac pacemakers
Cardiac pacemakers (applies only to digital cordless telephones):
Wireless Technology Research, LLC (WTR), an independent research entity, led a multidisciplinary evaluation of the interference between portable wireless telephones and implanted cardiac pacemakers. Supported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, WTR recommends to physicians that:
Pacemaker patients
· Should keep wireless telephones at least six inches from the pacemaker.
· Should NOT place wireless telephones directly over the pacemaker, such as in a breast pocket, when it is turned ON.
· Should use the wireless telephone at the ear opposite the pacemaker.
WTR’s evaluation did not identify any risk to bystanders with pacemakers from other persons using wireless telephones.
Operating range
The cordless telephone operates with the maximum power allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Even so, the cordless handset and base station can communicate over only a certain distance which can vary with the locations of the base station, cordless handset, the weather, and the layout of the hotel.
When the cordless handset is out of range while on a call, the cordless handset rapidly beeps three times.
If there is a call while the handset is out of range, it may not ring, or if it does ring, the call may not connect well when you answer the call. Move closer to the base station to answer the call.
If the handset moves out of range during

a telephone conversation, there may be interference.
To improve reception, move closer to the base station.
About cordless telephones
Privacy: The same features that make a cordless telephone convenient create some limitations. Telephone calls are transmitted between the base station and the cordless handset by radio waves, so there is a possibility that the cordless telephone conversations could be intercepted by radio receiving equipment within range of the cordless handset. For this reason, you should not think of cordless telephone conversations as being as private as those on corded telephones.
Electrical power: The base station of the cordless telephone must be connected to a working electrical outlet. The electrical outlet should not be controlled by a wall switch. Calls cannot be made from the cordless handset if the base station is unplugged, switched off or if the electrical power is interrupted.
Potential TV interference: Some cordless telephones operate at frequencies that may cause interference to televisions and VCRs. To minimize or prevent such interference, do not place the base station of the cordless telephone near or on top of a TV or VCR. If interference is experienced, moving the cordless telephone farther away from the TV or VCR often reduces or eliminates the interference.
Rechargeable batteries: Exercise care in handling batteries in order not to create a short circuit with conducting material such as rings, bracelets and keys. The battery or conductor may overheat and cause harm. Observe proper polarity between the battery and the battery charger.

Taking care of your telephone Your telephone contains sophisticated electronic parts, so it must be treated with care.
Avoid rough treatment Place the handset down gently. Save the original packing materials to protect your telephone if you ever need to ship it.
Avoid water Your telephone can be damaged if it gets wet. Do not use the handset outdoors in the rain, or handle it with wet hands. Do not install the base station near a sink, bathtub or shower.
Electrical storms Electrical storms can sometimes cause power surges harmful to electronic equipment. For your own safety, take caution when using electrical appliances during storms.
Cleaning your telephone Your telephone has a durable plastic casing that should retain its luster for many years. Clean it only with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water or mild soap. Do not use excess water or cleaning solvents of any kind.
