INSTALLATION
Mounting
- The EZ-GW24 is designed for rack mounting (1U).
- Confirm mounting brackets are firmly attached to the EZ-GW24. Place the EZ-GW24 into a standard 19” rack and secure to rack with proper hardware. (Figure 2)
Power Connections
Make sure all signal connections via the back panel are made and the EZ-GW24 is connected to the Ethernet switch, then connect the power cord to the AC power source. A strain relief bracket is provided to secure the AC cord. (Figure 4)
Front Panel Connections (Figure 5)
Network Connection
- The EZ-GW24 has an RJ45 Ethernet network connection on the front panel.
- The Ethernet connector has two LEDs to indicate link speed and activity.
- Left LED (Amber) indicates Activity: Flashing indicates packets sent/received
- Right LED (Green) indicates link: On steady: Connected
Status LED
The Status LED on the front panel indicates the general status of the EZ-GW24. (Figure 5)
- Off: Indicates system startup or not powered on
- Red Flashing: Indicates system is ready
SPEAKER CABLING
- If this EZ-GW24 is installed to replace an existing page controller, please be aware the primary cause of troubles in retrofit systems is directly related to the existing field wiring.
- It is imperative that existing speaker wiring (field wiring) be assessed before making connections to new equipment.
- Always check speaker lines, new or existing, for transient voltage and proper impedance before cross connecting to the intercom equipment. Use a good quality Impedance Meter, not an Ohm meter.
The speaker type is selected in the software during programming, with the choices of 25 Volt, 45 Ohm or Line Level. All speakers must be of the same type and must not exceed the following limits:
- 45 Ohm Maximum of 5 Valcom 45 Ohm speakers per zone with no more than 24 across all zones
- 25 Volt Total tap of 15 watts per zone with no more than 120 watts across all zones
- One-Way Line Level Maximum of 45 Valcom self-amplified speakers per zone and no more than 240 self-amplified speakers across all zones
Rear Panel Connections (Figure 1)
Speaker Zones 1 – 24 are individual connectors for speaker output. A wiring connection block with screw terminals is provided for each zone. The individual screw terminal blocks may be removed for easy installation. Each block has connections for two zones, with arrows indicating which zone is the top row and which is the bottom row. The connections labeled “SW” are not used. Details of the wiring connections are shown below.
A strain relief bracket is provided to support the speaker wiring. The bracket must be attached to the rear of the EZ-GW24 by removing the two case screws on each end of the unit, positioning the bracket against the case, and reinstalling the screws. (Figure 3)
Setup
- Information specific to your application will need to be programmed into the EZ-GW24 using a computer. The PC used for programming should be connected to the same subnet as the EZ-GW24. Setup will be done using the IP Solutions Setup
- Tool. Download the latest version of the free IP Solutions Setup Tool from the Valcom website at www.valcom.com/vipsetuptool.
Factory Reset Modes
- A button is provided through a pinhole in the front of the EZ-GW24, beside the Status LED, that can be used to reset the EZ-GW24 configuration. Pressing the button continuously for 10 to 20 seconds will perform a soft reset on the EZ-GW24.
- The IP address will be reset to factory default. Other configuration items will not be affected.
- If the button is pressed for more than 20 seconds, all configuration items will be reset to factory default, including the password. (Figure 5)
