INSTALLATION

NOTE: The telephone system referred to in this manual is the customer premise equipment such as an electronic key system, a PBX or a dedicated single line telephone set.

The EZ-GW1W or EZ-GW1R is not intended for direct or indirect connection to the public telephone network. When used with a customer premise telephone system such as a key system or PBX system, these units are interfaced to the system via a fully protected page port or system central office port, which is a fully protected interface device. Also, the host system must be configured to disallow central office trunk conferencing to prevent indirect connection to the public network.

Precautionary Designations

CAUTION

  • RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK: DO NOT OPEN
  • To reduce the risk of electric shock,
  • Do not remove cover.
  • No user serviceable parts inside.
  • Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.

VALCOM-EZ-GW1W,EZ-GW1R-Ezip-1-Zone-Audio-Gateway-fig- 4 This symbol indicates that dangerous voltage constituting a risk of electric shock is present within this unit.

Mounting
The EZ-GW1W is designed for wall or table mounting. The EZ-GW1R is designed for 19” rack mounting (1U).

  • Table: Provided with the EZ-GW1W are four rubber pads. Peel these pads off their carrier backing and place at the four corners of the bottom of the unit.
  • Wall: Secure mounting brackets to the EZ-GW1W, then secure the EZ-GW1W to the wall.
    See Figure 1.
  • Rack: Secure mounting brackets to the EZ-GW1R. See Figure 1. Place the EZ-GW1R into a standard 19” rack and secure to rack with proper hardware (not included).

Connections

Power Connections

  • The preferred method of powering a EZ-GW1W or EZ-GW1R is via a Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch meeting the 802.3af specification.
  • If the rear panel barrel connector is used for power, the preferred power supply is a Valcom VIP-324D.
  • Make all required signal connections before applying power to the unit. If powering via 802.3af, make sure all signal connections via the back panel are made then connect the EZ-GW1W or EZ-GW1R to the Ethernet switch.
  • If power is supplied via the barrel connector, make sure all signal connections are secure. Attach the unit to the network via the front panel RJ-45 Ethernet connector. Apply power by plugging the power supply into the EZ-GW1W or EZ-GW1R via the barrel connector on the rear of the unit.

Network Connection
The EZ-GW1W or EZ-GW1R has one RJ-45 network connector on the front panel. Use a standard Ethernet patch cable to connect the EZ-GW1W or EZ-GW1R to an Ethernet switch.

Signal Connections
The EZ-GW1W or EZ-GW1R has signal connectors on the rear panel:

  • RCA jack for AUX audio input
  • 2 Audio outputs
  • Form C relays
  • 1 Audio input
  • 1 Contact Closure input
  1. AUX Input: Local audio may be input via the rear panel RCA jack. Nominal input impedance is 600 Ohms. Connect any compatible audio source using an RCA patch cable. Audio supplied through the rear panel RCA jack is transformer coupled to both Audio Out terminals when paging is idle. This is typically used for background music.
  2. Audio Out: Two audio output connections are provided. The terminals labeled “Page” provide a signal output compatible with Valcom self-amplified speakers. Up to 40 Valcom speakers can be connected to the Page output. The terminals labeled “AUX” provide a signal output compatible with most amplifiers and should be used where a transformer-coupled output is desired.
  3. DIP Switch: The four-pole DIP switch controls a supervision signal on the “Page” audio output line. For systems where supervision is used, setting DIP switches 1 & 2 to ON enables supervision on the Page audio output connections. Where supervision is not used, set DIP switches 1 & 2 to OFF. Switches 3 & 4 are not used.
  4. Audio Input/Contact Closure: One Audio Input and one Contact Closure input are provided. Neither input is polarity sensitive. The contact closure is labeled “CC”. The audio input terminals are labeled “AUDIO”.
  5. Relay Channels: Access to the two form C relays is provided via a six-pin screw terminal block. The relays are labeled K1 and K2. Each relay is brought out on three terminals. The common contact is the middle terminal with the normally closed contact on the right and the normally open contact on the left. Relay contacts are rated for 1A @ 24Vdc.

Status Indicator Lights
The EZ-GW1W or EZ-GW1R has 3 status indication lights on the front panel:

  • STATUS: Flashes during normal operation and solid during system startup.
  • Green LED: (Link) Indicates Ethernet connection when illuminated.
  • Yellow LED: (Activity) Indicator flashes to indicate network activity.
