Installation
Installation Requirements and Precautions
- Please read the manual thoroughly before attempting to install or operate your Spider Farmer Grow Light and keep it for future reference.
- Only connect the light to power sources of the appropriate voltage using the plug received. Protect power cables from being pinched or damaged, especially where the power cable enters the power outlet and the unit.
- Ensure your power source conforms to the electrical requirements of this product.
- If the provided plug does not fit your socket, please contact Spider Farmer for help by email immediately. Do not replace the power cord or plug by yourself, otherwise, Spider Farmer is not responsible for man-made damages.
- Spider Farmer grow light can be used in many indoor situations. Suitable hanging methods should be adopted according to the specific situation.
- When hanging and using the light, please strictly follow the installation / assembly steps, and do not exceed the maximum number of lights.
- When installing the light, appropriate positions should be selected to place or hang the light. When hanging the light, specified designed lifting ropes and hooks must be used to ensure that the weight of light is within the weight range borne by the suspended objects.
- Please use professional personnel to install the light. Any improper installation may cause personal injury or material damage.
- Prevent others from entering under the work area. Use a suitable, stable, and safe platform when installing or maintaining the light.
- The system should only be cleaned as directed in the manual. You should seek service by qualified service personnel if any of the following occur: The power-supply cord or the plug has been damaged. The unit has been exposed to rain. The unit exhibits a marked change in performance. The unit has been dropped, or its enclosure or chassis is damaged.
- Check your local code restrictions for additional safety measures that may be needed for a proper code-compliant installation. ⚠️
- Do not attempt to hardwire this product. Performing any retrofitting actions may result in personal injury and/or electrical damage, and will void this product's warranty. ⚠️
- This product must not be used in potentially hazardous locations such as flammable, explosive, chemical-laden, or wet atmospheres. ⚠️
- Do not cover power cords with rugs or other fabric materials.
- Safety precautions should be exercised during the installation, operation, and maintenance of this product.
- Do not block or tamper with this product in any manner while it is in operation as it may cause electric shock, fire, or damage to this product. ⚠️
- Do not depend on the on/off programming as the sole means of shutting power from this product. Unplug the power cord before installing, servicing, or moving this product.
- Do not operate this product while its cord is damaged, or if it malfunctions, has been dropped, or is damaged in any manner.
- Be sure to mount the system to something that can hold the weight of the LED fixture.
- Take caution if you touch the LED bars. Ensure the LED array does not come in contact with sharp objects or force that may damage the diodes. Be sure to wait at least 30 minutes for the LED strips to cool down before touching them with your hand, as they will be hot!
- The voltage range is 100V-277V. Ensure usage within this range, and be aware that the output power decreases when operating at AC100-120V.
Installation Steps
Hang the Light
Step 1: The fixture frame uses a folding design for easier use and storage if it is rated at 480W or above. After removing the components from the packaging, open the frame fully. For fixtures below 480W, the frame is a non-folding, integrated design.
Step 2: Mount the system to something that can hold the weight of the LED fixture. Carefully turn the fixture over and attach the metal hanging rope to the hanging holes. Hang the fixture in required position and height.
Driver Mounting
There are three installation directions for the power supply:
- Parallel to the direction of the light bars (as shown in Figure 1), such as SE5000, SE7000, SE8600, and SE1000W.
- Perpendicular to the direction of the light bars (as shown in Figure 2), such as SE3000, SE4500, SE1200W.
- Installed on the single light bar in the middle (as shown in Figure 3), such as SE1500.
Diagram Description: Figure 1 shows the driver parallel to the light bars. Figure 2 shows the driver perpendicular to the light bars. Figure 3 shows the driver mounted on a central light bar.
Securing Dimmer Box
At the bottom of the dimmer box are two protruding horizontal bars. Align these bars with the two grooves on the light frame, then secure the dimmer box onto the light frame.
Power Connection
Connect the power cord to the driver, then plug it into the socket and turn on the light.
Usage and Tips
User Tips
Starter Guide
- The rate of photosynthesis and transpiration are directly affected by temperature, humidity and air flow.
- The perfect temperature and humidity for your plants are usually found between 65 °F - 95 °F (18 °C-35 °C) 50%-70% humidity, with plenty of airflow to replenish CO2 and a PH of around 6-6.5.
- You may add more calcium and magnesium than is normally needed.
How Far Should LED Grow Lights Be From Plants?
As a General Guideline Followed By Many Growers
Light Type | Recommended Wattage | Distance from Top of Plant |
---|---|---|
Lower Wattage LEDs | Around 200 watts | 12-20 inches |
Higher Wattage LEDs | Recommended Wattage | 36-46 inches |
Medium Wattage Bulbs | Adjusted accordingly within the above ranges | Constantly adjusted to meet light exposure needs as plants develop through growth stages |
These guidelines are not one-size-fits-all. For example, dimmable bar-style LED grow lights, even those with a power of 800 watts, can be hung just 12 inches away. Adjusting the intensity and duration of PAR exposure allows growers to optimize growth. Hence, while you can find distance charts for LED grow lights online, a universal answer cannot be determined solely based on wattage. It's crucial to tailor PPFD readings for each growth stage and each plant.
Perfecting PPFD for Hanging LED Lights
To determine the hanging height, assess the preferred light intensity, indicated by PPFD, which varies with plant growth stages:
Stage | PPFD Range (µmol/m²/s) |
---|---|
Seedling | 100 - 300 |
Vegetative | 400 - 600 |
Flowering | 800 - 1,000 |
Note: With additional CO2 exposure, PPFD (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density) and DLI (Daily Light Integral) scores should be higher. When you provide plants with more carbon dioxide, they can withstand stronger light and heat. Without increasing the light intensity in your space, you won't fully benefit from the advantages of elevated CO2 levels.

General Care
SPIDER FARMER Grow Lights are passively cooled with zero moving components. They are designed for harsh environments and years of maintenance-free performance. Some basic care will keep your lights working at peak performance cycle-after-cycle.
- Natural convection removes heat away from the heat sink. In order to properly cool itself, at least one inch of space is required between the fixture and the roof of your grow area. Failure to do so may shorten the fixture's lifespan.
- To achieve the optimal lifespan and performance of your fixtures, routinely check for and remove excess dust, debris, and mineral build up from the heat sink and LED array. Cleaning should always be done with the fixture or using low-pressure compressed air while unplugged from its power source.
- Never use a cloth to clean the diode array, otherwise it may scratch or damage the integrity of the silicon seal, or dislodge diodes entirely.
- To limit degradation, avoid touching the diodes with your hands, even in a powered off state.
