Installation Instruction
- Remove the old starter
- Remove the original lower starter mounting stud from the bell housing using vise grips or a stud removal tool
- Install the starter adaptor using the flat-head cap screw supplied into the lower bolt hole.
- Reinstall the stock upper bolt and nut if you are installing the adaptor to a stock WBX van, or if it is a conversion using a Kennedy adaptor plate with stud, use the flange nut supplied.
- Use only TDI starters from 1996-2003 manual-trans USAmodels, VW part # 02A911023R, 02A911024, or SR-0408X or SR409X remanufactured Bosch.
- The SR0425N is also a great option for gasoline engines, with slightly lower torque output.
- Install the starter to the adaptor using bolts and flat washers supplied, and reconnect wires.
- There will be two small red wires on the original starter connection. Combine these to produce a single spade terminal connection for the new starter.
Recommended: Using the optional pigtail will result in a sealed and locked connection when combining the two small starter wires.
Note: Some starters will have a short stud for the power cables.
- If this is the case, you will need to trim the thickness of the alternator cable end or replace it with a crimp-on ring terminal end.
