What you need

  • USB flash drive (at least 1 GB, exFAT format)
  • Computer with internet access
  • SD 312 controller with power cable

Instruction

Step 1 — Download the latest software

Step 2 — Prepare the USB drive

Format the USB drive as exFAT

  • Windows: Open File Explorer, right-click the USB drive and select Format. Set the file system to exFAT, then click Start.
  • Mac: Open Disk Utility, select the USB drive, click Erase. Set Format to ExFAT, then click Erase.
  • exFAT is required because the drive name is case-sensitive — FAT32 converts all labels to uppercase, and the update will not run.

Name the USB drive
After formatting, rename the USB drive to exactly:

Case-sensitive name

  • The drive name must be exactly SvanLINKu — capital S, capital L, capital K, lowercase u. Any difference (e.g., “svanlinku” or “SVANLINKU”) will prevent the update from running.

Copy the update files.

  • Extract the contents of SD312.zip directly to the root directory of the USB drive.
  • After extraction, the USB drive must contain a folder named svanlink in its root. Do not place it inside any additional subfolder.

Step 3 — Run the update on the SD 312

  • Turn on the SD 312 and wait for it to fully boot up (approximately 30 seconds).
  • Insert the USB drive into the USB port on the SD 312.
  • Wait — the SD 312 will automatically process the update and then shut down on its own. This may take a few minutes.
  • Once the SD 312 has shut down, remove the USB drive.
  • Reconnect the power cable. The SD 312 will restart with the new software installed.

Do not interrupt the update.

Do not remove the USB drive or disconnect the power cable while the SD 312 is running the update. Interrupting the process may corrupt the device firmware.

Step 4 — Verify the update

  • After the SD 312 has restarted, verify the software version in the SvanLINK web interface or the device display.
  • If the update did not complete successfully, repeat the procedure from Step 2 and ensure the USB drive name and file structure are correct.

Troubleshooting

  • Update does not complete successfully: repeat the procedure starting at Step 2.
  • Check USB drive details: ensure the USB drive name is exactly SvanLINKu (case-sensitive) and that the update files are placed so a svanlink folder exists in the root of the drive.
  • Avoid interruptions: do not remove the USB drive or disconnect power while the SD 312 is running the update, as interrupting may corrupt the device firmware.
