    Question

What should I do if my hearing aids get wet in the shower?

    Answer

While the Starkey Thrive Hearing Control Application manual focuses on software features, getting your hearing aids wet requires immediate physical care to prevent damage. If your hearing aids are exposed to water in the shower, follow these steps:

    • Power Off: Turn off the hearing aids immediately. If they use disposable batteries, open the battery door and remove the batteries.
    • Dry the Exterior: Gently pat the outside of the hearing aids dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
    • Remove Moisture: Shake them gently to dislodge any water trapped in the ear hooks or tubing.
    • Use a Drying Kit: Place the hearing aids in a hearing aid dehumidifier or drying beaker overnight. If you do not have one, leave them in a cool, dry place with the battery doors open. Do not use a hair dryer, microwave, or oven, as high heat can damage the internal electronics.
    • Check Functionality: Once completely dry, insert fresh batteries (or turn them back on) and check if they connect to the Thrive app.

If the hearing aids do not function correctly after drying, you can use the Thrive Assistant feature in the app (tap the '?' icon) to troubleshoot or use the Hearing Care Anywhere section (Settings > Hearing Care Anywhere) to contact your hearing professional for a repair request.

Note: Most modern Starkey hearing aids have an IP water-resistance rating, but they are generally not waterproof and should be removed before showering.
