    Question

Why is the SSK Hard Disk Docking station not working with my M1 Mac Mini?

    Answer

While the SSK-DK100 is listed as compatible with Mac operating systems, users with M1 Mac Mini hardware may need to check specific setup requirements to ensure the drive is recognized:

    • Disk Formatting: According to the manual, newly added HDDs must be partitioned and formatted in Disk Management (Disk Utility on Mac) before they can be used. If the drive was previously used on Windows, it may be in a format (like NTFS) that is read-only or not natively supported without specific software.
    • Power Supply: Ensure the included 12V power adapter is connected and the power button on the back is pressed for 1 second. The green LED should be always on.
    • Connection: If the M1 Mac Mini does not recognize the USB 3.0 connection, try using a high-quality USB-A to USB-C adapter or a direct USB-C to USB-B cable if your dock uses a standard USB-B port.
    • Security Settings: On M1 Macs, you may need to check System Settings > Privacy & Security to see if you need to "Allow" the accessory to connect.

If the LEDs are flashing but the drive does not appear, open Disk Utility to see if the disk is visible but unmounted.
