Example:

FOCAL DIVA UTOPIA 3 Way Active Wireless Loudspeaker - DIVA UTOPIA

The loudspeakers are paired automatically when they are powered on.
During a factory reset, speaker pairing may not be automatic.
Here is the procedure to follow:

  • Unplug all other nearby DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers to avoid incorrect pairing.
  • Connect the DIVA UTOPIA Primary and Secondary loudspeakers to the mains.
  • The LED below the Speaker Pairing button on the Primary loudspeaker should be off, indicating that the Secondary speaker is missing.
  • Lightly press the pairing button on the Primary loudspeaker.
  • The LED indicator on the loudspeaker will flash purple.
  • Lightly press the pairing button on the Secondary loudspeaker.
  • The LED indicator on the loudspeaker will flash purple.
  • After a few seconds, the LEDs on the two pairing buttons on both loudspeakers should remain lit in white.
  • The DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers are paired.

FOCAL DIVA UTOPIA 3 Way Active Wireless Loudspeaker - Speaker Pairing

If the pairing problem persists:

  • Check that the two loudspeakers are not spaced more than 8m apart.
  • Check that the loudspeakers are powered on.
  • Check that the correct DIVA UTOPIA are paired.
  • Check that there is no obstacle between the two loudspeakers, such as a wall, or any other object that could prevent a good connection.

Wireless pairing provides speaker-to-speaker connection at up to 96kHz 24bit.
However, to enjoy the DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers with a quality of 192kHz, using the RJ45 cable supplied in the accessory box is recommended:

  • Unpack the cable.
  • Connect the Primary loudspeaker via the RJ45 port identified on the back of the PRIMARY DIVA UTOPIA as “Speaker Link”.
  • Connect the Secondary speaker via the RJ45 port identified on the back of the SECONDARY DIVA UTOPIA as “Speaker Link”.

Using the cable is required:
– To upgrade the resolution to 192kHz/24bit (wireless: 96kHz/24bit).
– Due to sound loss caused by interference.

Configuration with the Focal & Naim app (fig. 22)
In order to play streamed audio files and internet radio stations, DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers must be connected to the internet via a local network router. Connection to the router may be wired or wireless.
Note: The DIVA UTOPIA loudspeaker is configured by default to obtain its IP address using DHCP. DIVA UTOPIA can be configued to use a fixed IP address via is internal web setup pages.
Note: If the DIVA UTOPIA loudspeaker has been previously used it is good practice to return it to its default settings before attempting to connecting it to the network. The factory default procedure will erase any existing user and network settings and restore the default Radio presets. To do this, use the pin provided and insert it into the pinhole located in the “status” section at the back of the DIVA UTOPIA.
In order for DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers to connect to the internet via a local wireless network, they must be configured with the wireless network name (SSID) and password (security key).
Note: The DIVA UTOPIA loudspeaker is Wi-Fi6 compatible.
Note: DIVA UTOPIA cannot connect to a “hidden” Wi-Fi network.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE

The way the loudspeakers behave depends on the room’s acoustics, the positioning of the loudspeakers within the room and the listener’s location. You can tweak each of these elements to correct or improve a desired effect.
The stereophonic perception is imprecise and poorly centred: try to move the loudspeakers closer to each other and/or point them towards the listening point (fig. 13).
The sound is “harsh”, aggressive: the room’s acoustics are probably too reverberant. Consider using sound-absorbing materials (rugs, sofa, wall coverings, curtains, etc.) and sound-reflecting materials (furniture) to absorb or diffuse resonance.
The sound is “flat”, strangled: there are too many sound-absorbing materials in the room; the sound is soaked up and has no depth. Aim for a better balance between the absorbent and reflective materials within the room. In general, aim to have a reflective wall behind the loudspeakers so that the sound develops correctly. The wall behind the listening area, meanwhile, will ideally be absorbent to prevent rear reflections from “contaminating” the perception of the stereo image. Furniture can be placed judiciously on the side walls to diffuse the sound waves and therefore ensure certain frequency ranges are not excited, particularly in the midrange (suppression of flutter echoes).

Choosing the location
The loudspeakers have been developed to deliver the most accurate sound reproduction, whether they are used for stereo music or Home Cinema. However, a few simple rules should be followed to optimise their performance and to guarantee good tonal balance and a realistic sound image.
The loudspeakers should be positioned symmetrically opposite the listening position, ideally so that they form an equilateral triangle with it. You can, however, vary these distances to find the perfect compromise according to specific room layouts (fig. 13).
The loudspeakers should be positioned at the same height in the same horizontal plane. Ideally the tweeter will be positioned at the listener’s ear level, at the usual listening point (fig. 14).
Do not place the loudspeakers too close to a corner of the room and avoid placing them close to a wall. This will have the effect of exciting certain resonances of the room and artificially increasing the bass level. On the other hand, if the bass level is deemed insufficient, you can try moving the loudspeakers closer to the walls to rebalance it (fig. 15).
Our products are carefully designed and manufactured in our factories with great attention to detail. Each product has an initial stereo setting with the Primary speaker on the left and the Secondary speaker on the right. With the Focal & Naim app, the initial stereo setting can be modified according to the location of the speakers to adjust the stereo.

ADAPT Room Calibration
To go further, a room acoustic correction function is available in the settings menu of the Focal & Naim application. (fig. 13)

Grille
The DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers are supplied with grilles to protect the midrange speaker driver. They are easy to fit or remove thanks to their magnetic attachment system. We advise removing them when you are listening to music to get the best performance from your loudspeakers. The grilles over the bass units on the sides of the loudspeakers are not detachable.

Stand-by mode
The DIVA UTOPIA loudspeaker can go into standby mode if the product is not used for 20 minutes. However, to configure the loudspeakers so that they automatically go into standby mode after a certain time, browse the settings in the Focal & Naim app. If the Focal Logo on the front panel is dim, this indicates that the loudspeaker is in standby mode.

Running-in period
The speaker drivers used in the DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers are complex mechanical assemblies which need a runningin period to operate at their best and to become acclimatised to the temperature and humidity of your environment. This running-in period varies depending on the conditions in question and may take several weeks. To reduce this time, we recommend operating the loudspeakers for about twenty consecutive hours. Once the loudspeaker’s characteristics have fully stabilised, you will be able to enjoy the full potential of your DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers.

Ground switch
The Primary speaker has its internal signal ground connected to mains earth by default. If an earthed source is connected to the analogue input or there is audible hum through the speakers set the “Ground” switch to “Float”.

Cleaning and maintenance
DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers are delicate and must be used carefully. For the best product experience, follow the instructions.

Risk of electric shock!
– Improper cleaning of the loudspeakers may cause injury.
– Always unplug the power cables from the electrical sockets before cleaning the loudspeakers.

Risk of short circuit!
If the loudspeakers come into contact with water or other liquids, this could cause a short circuit.
– Water or other liquids must not be allowed to enter DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers.
– Never immerse the loudspeakers in water or other liquids.

Risk of damage!
Do not use harsh cleaners, brushes with metal or nylon bristles, or metal or sharp utensils such as knives, hard scrapers, etc.
This could damage the surface of the loudspeakers.

  1. Unplug the loudspeakers’ power cables from electrical sockets before cleaning.
  2. Clean the loudspeaker surfaces with a clean, lint-free cloth. If necessary, use an alcohol-free cleaner (e.g. screen cleaner, eyeglass lens cleaner) to remove stubborn stains.
  3. To clean the loudspeakers, we recommend using an antistatic cleaner and a soft sponge. The speaker drivers could be damaged by rough scrubbing.
