Master Device

About this guide:

This guide consists of 3 sections:

  • Overview – Describes the Master Device selection in a True Order™ Kitchen Display System (KDS).
  • How to Select the Master Device – A procedure to be followed to select Master Device within a Multi-Station KDS Setup.
  • Appendix – System diagrams for KDS and POS menu routing.

Overview

Every True Order KDS must have one device designated as the Master, POS Attached Device. In systems with just one device the choice is automatic and there is nothing to configure. In multi-station systems that have more than 1 device one needs to be designated as the Master, POS Attached Device. Which one to configure depends on your multi-station routing method:

  • KDS Menu Routing – All print jobs are sent directly to a main device. The menu configuration and routing determine which stations items in an order are sent to. This device needs to be the Master, POS Attached Device.
  • POS Menu Routing – All print jobs are sent from the POS directly to their intended display stations. The POS determines which items are sent where and all menu management remains on the POS. Any device can be designated as the Master, POS Attached Device.

IMPORTANT: The POS parser gets installed on the selected POS Connected device and is different for each hardware model. By default, every device ships with a full list of parsers built for itself. The parser name and corresponding IPK filename have the hardware variant in them. For example, in the above picture the POS Type “Epson KDS mtmc Version 3.4” contains “mtmc”, which means Micro Touch Mach platform.
