RFL™ LoRa-Equipped
Data Logger for DicksonOne
Quick Start Guide
RFL Data Logger
This Quick-start Guide presents an overview of the Dickson RFL data logger, with setup and connection instructions to get your device up and running with your LoRa gateway. You can then register the data logger in DicksonOne to view data online, configure alarms, and much more.
To register RFL data loggers in your DicksonOne account, please make sure that your RF gateway is connected to the internet and registered to your DicksonOne account to simplify the process.
RF loggers require an installed RFG Gateway in order to communicate. If you do not have a gateway already installed, please configure and install your gateway first. If you did not purchase the RFG Gateway, please contact Dickson sales to purchase.

2 x AA batteries | USB OTG cable |
Note: RFL data loggers are designed to run on batteries, but you can also power the devices with both an AC adapter (part: A075) and AA batteries. The benefit of combining the two power sources is that the AA batteries have a longer battery life when an AC adapter is also plugged in.
In any case, AA batteries must always be installed and have power remaining in them in order for the data logger to continue to collect and store data.
Introduction
The DicksonOne Battery Operated Data Loggers are intended for the monitoring of environmental variables (e.g. temperature, humidity, etc) in equipment and spaces. See Safety instructions on page 4 for more application usage information/restrictions.

User Input/Controls
This data logger has three main user inputs:
- Power Button – Located on the right side of the device this turns the device on and off.
- Transmit Button – Also located on the right side of the device, this button forces transmission of a “ping” packet to the server and is used for testing.
- Min/Max Button – Located on the front or face of the device, this button can reset the on-screen min/max values when held.RFL data logger setup: automatic pre-registration.
RFL Data Logger Setup: Automatic
Prerequisite: Before adding an RFL data logger to your DicksonOne account, you must first set up and register an RF gateway. Once that is done, setting up an RFL data logger is quick and easy.
- Insert the batteries into the logger.
- Plug in the replaceable sensor ensuring it is firmly connected.
- Turn on the device and wait for 30-60 seconds.
- From the dashboard page of your DicksonOne account, click the “Register New Hardware” button in the upper right.
- Select “Add an RFL” (if there’s a number in a red circle that means devices have automatically been identified!).
- If you have devices displayed on the page, the 6-digit number in the illustration should match the code displayed on the screen of your device so you know which device you’re configuring.
Note: While you can still use the serial number to identify which device is which after configuration, it may be helpful to label the logger with a name that is easy to remember - You can now configure the device with the following:
a. Device name
b. Device location
c. Default settings; optionally, click edit to apply something other than the defaults
d. Optionally, add names for each channel
e. Optionally, apply an alarm template to each channel - Select “Add Device”.
- You can add other devices in the same way as above or navigate to the device you just configured by clicking on the device name in the “Recently Configured” pane on the right.
RFL Data Logger Setup: Manual
If a 6-digit code is displayed on the RFL data logger screen, but the device does not automatically appear in your DicksonOne account on the Unassigned Devices page, you may need to claim it manually.
First, double-check to make sure that your RF gateway is registered in your DicksonOne account and that the gateway is connected to the Internet. Then, refresh the Unassigned Devices page in DicksonOne and see if the data logger appears on the screen.
If not, it is possible that no gateway is registered in your account, or there may be a gateway conflict (e.g. two RF gateways belonging to different customers having overlapping wireless coverage), in which case DicksonOne cannot automatically determine which account owns the data logger in question.
Follow these steps to claim the data logger manually:
- Go to your DicksonOne.com account and click on +Add Hardware
Add an RFL
Claim Missing Data Loggers in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- Enter the 6-digit code displayed on the data logger screen into the field.
You can enter multiple codes at once, using a comma to separate each code.
- Click on Claim Data Loggers
- The data loggers will now appear in the list and you can proceed with configuration as described previously.
