Clinical Scale and Indicator Preventative Maintenance Instructions
The scale and indicator contain no user-serviceable parts and should be limited to an occasional cleaning as required and the following preventative maintenance:
If Using Alkaline Batteries
Alkaline batteries should be changed at least twice a year or as needed. For example, the two (2) times a year we change our clocks for Daylight savings time can serve as a reminder to change the batteries.
If Using Rechargeable (NiCad or NiMH) Batteries
Rechargeable batteries typically last between two and five years and can be recharged hundreds of times. As a guideline, when the operating time of the scale is cut in half, the rechargeable batteries should be replaced. For example, if the scale is only used for a few hours and the low battery symbol or message is displayed and the scale immediately turns off, it is time to replace the rechargeable batteries.
Inspect the Scale Cable for Damage or Fraying
One of the most common problems is a damaged or frayed scale-to-indicator cable, a loose 9-pin connection to the weight indicator, or a loose wire or broken connection in the 9-pin “D” style connector.
- Complete a visual inspection of the scale to indicator cable; look for cut or frayed insulation or a crimped cable which could indicate a broken wire.
- If the cable is damaged, contact Tech Support at tech@cardet.com to obtain a replacement.
- Make sure the 9-pin “D” style connector is not loose where it is attached to the weight indicator.
- If the 9-pin “D” style connector is loose, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to tighten the connector screws to secure the connector to the weight indicator.
- Remove the 9-pin “D” style connector from the weight indicator and then remove the back shell of the connector and inspect the wires for a broken connection or a loose wire.
- If a loose wire or broken connection is found and you have the soldering equipment to repair the cable, refer to the weight indicator manual for wire connections. Otherwise, contact Tech Support at tech@cardet.com to obtain a replacement.
To Maintain Scale Accuracy
Please be advised that DETECTO only makes the following statement as a recommendation as individual state requirements may be different based on the scale use and application.
- For all clinical scales, we recommend a minimum 6-month calibration cycle.
- Note that all scales purchased from DETECTO are fully calibrated when shipped from our facility but due to various state requirements, third-party calibration verification with certified test weights may be required.
- For calibration procedures for your scale, refer to the weight indicator manual used on your scale.
General Cleaning Instructions
CAUTION! Do not submerge the scale or indicator in water, pour or spray water directly on them to clean. The scale and indicator are not waterproof and covering them with water will damage the scale and indicator and void the warranty.
- Always remove power before cleaning.
- When cleaning, use only damp soft cloths or plastic scouring pads for cleaning cloth and a mild non- abrasive detergent.
- DO NOT use acetone, thinner, or other volatile solvents for cleaning.
- DO NOT use things that will scratch the surface, such as steel pads, wire brushes, and scrapers.
