Placement within your room You probably already have an idea where you would like to place the system in your room. Before you make the final decision, consider these recommendations for the most satisfying performance. With any sound system, where it’s located affects how well the sound fills the space. All SpinBase series speakers feature a 270-degree sound field to provide a spacious, room-enveloping performance that defies its compact size. Sound is emitted from both sides and the front of the unit, so be careful not to block the sound from the sides. Although placement of SpinBase speakers is less complex than a typical component system, following these simple guidelines will result in the most enjoyable sound quality.
· To ensure the most even sound coverage, try to place system near the center of one of the walls. It should be at, or slightly below, ear height for a seated listener.
· Using the optional Spinstand will place the system at the ideal height in most rooms.
· If the unit will be placed in a corner, angle it at 45-degrees so that the speakers on one side are not blocked.
· Keep the sides of the unit unobstructed by solid objects for as much distance as practical, but by at least 12″ (~30.5 cm).
· Place the unit on a solid table or component rack. DO NOT use soft vibration isolators or place the unit on a carpet or foam surface. If the support surface is not sufficiently rigid, acoustic feedback may occur.
· Avoid placing the unit in an enclosed bookshelf or cabinet, as this will significantly compromise its performance.

MAGNETIC PHONO INPUT – Connect to a high quality turntable equipped with a Magnetic Phono Cartridge that does not have a built-in preamp, or has its preamp bypassed.
PHONO GROUND SCREW – Connect the GROUND wire from turntables with this feature to reduce hum. Not all turntables will feature a ground wire.
AUX IN – Use this input to connect a Turntable that has a built-in Phono Preamp, the Line-Out from a Record Player, or any Line Level source such as a CD player or Streaming Audio accessory.
DIGITAL IN – Use this input to connect any device with optical digital output such as a TV, Songbird Streamer, CD player, or Computer. This input accepts up to 24bit/96kHz signals.

How to Connect your Turntable
SpinBase 2 and SpinBase MAX 2 can be used with many different types of Turntables or Record Players. The term Record Player describes an all-in-one device containing speakers. A Turntable is a component which requires connection to a speaker or amplifier. How you connect it to SpinBase depends on the Turntable or Record Player type you have.
A. Component Turntable with Magnetic Cartridge This is the most common type of turntable typically used with SpinBase. · Connect the Left and Right Phono Plugs to the pair of input jacks labeled
“Phono”. · If your Turntable is equipped with a GROUND wire, attach it to the ground
screw on SpinBase. If this is not securely attached, you may hear excessive hum from the speakers.
2. Component Turntable with Magnetic Cartridge and built-in preamplifier These are also quite common, and you have two options for connection. 1. If your Turntable does not have a switch to defeat the built-in preamp, con-
nect it’s output to the AUX-IN jack on SpinBase. 2. If your Turntable has a switch that allows you to bypass its built-in preampli-
fier, place the switch in the bypass mode and connect it as in the example shown on the next page. Depending on the quality of your Turntable’s built-in preamplifier, you may want to try both options and use whichever sounds best to you.
B. Bluetooth Turntable Bluetooth transmitting turntables can be connected to SpinBase by using the internal Bluetooth receiver. If you have a wired option, we recommend using it instead for the best sound quality without the degradation of sound typical of the inexpensive transmitters found in most Bluetooth turntables.
C. All-in-one Record Player SpinBase can also dramatically improve the sound of most all-in-one portable Record Players that already contain built-in speakers. The Record Player must have a Line-level output to facilitate this. Connect the output of your Record Player to the AUX input jack on your SpinBase model.

If your turntable has a built-in preamplifier, be sure to bypass it. This may be labelled Thru, Bypass, Phono, or Off depending on the brand.

How to Connect Other Sources
SpinBases can be used with many different types of sources. How you connect them depends on the features of that source.
· Connect a Digital Source with TOSLINK optical output to the DIGITAL input. This is recommended for TV or Songbird Music Streamer.
· Connect an analog source such as CD player, Tape Deck, or Streamer without Digital output to the AUX-IN connector. You may need a 3.5mm to Dual RCA adapter cable for sources that use RCA-type outputs.

Advanced features are easiest to access from the remote, however they are accessible directly on the unit for those times the remote may not be available.

Headphone Pairing: “hP-P” To pair with BT headphones or remote speakers. The display will flash when attempting to pair. Once paired the display will glow steadily. If hP-P is not flashing, it indicates that it is already actively paired with another device. You must unpair that other device by turning it off before you can pair to a new device.
A shortcut to hP-P is to double-click the knob when the source is displayed and not flashing.
Operating Advanced features from the Remote
See the Remote Control description on the previous page for most functions.
One function accessible only from the remote is the High-Pass Filter. When a subwoofer is used with your SpinBase series speaker, performance is improved by activating the High-Pass Filter (HPF) feature. This reduces the bass produced by the built-in SpinBase speakers, letting the Subwoofer handle this range. As a result, the system will play louder and with less distortion. Activating the HPF when no subwoofer is used will make the sound weak in the bass range, and is not recommended. To activate the High-Pass Filter, press and hold the Bass button on the remote control for >3-seconds. When the display indicates “HP”, the bass range below 100Hz is reduced on the built-in speakers. To restore Full Range operation when no subwoofer is used, press the Bass button for 3-seconds again until the display reads “Fr”.
9 Page 12
To Pair Bluetooth Source Devices · When BT input is selected, SpinBase will enter discovery mode automatically, as
indicated by a flashing “bt” indication on the LED display. · Enter the Bluetooth menu on your phone or other device and select SpinBase 2 (Or
SpinBase MAX 2). · Once the device indicates it’s “connected”, you are ready to play. SpinBase will
emit a beep, and the “bt” indication will stop flashing. · When “bt” is selected again, the unit will try to reconnect to any paired device
within range. · Please note: If you wish to connect to a different device, you must first “discon-
nect” or “forget” the pairing at the source device. To Pair Bluetooth Headphones or Speakers · When using any input, double-click the knob, or press and hold the headphone
button on the remote for 3-seconds. The display will indicate Headphone Pairing mode by flashing “hP-P”. · Place your headphones or other Bluetooth device into pairing mode. Once paired, the LED display will stop flashing. · Bluetooth transmission has a latency that may cause an echo effect when using the built-in speakers and additional speakers simultaneously. Note: If the “hP-P” indicator stops flashing before pairing with your headphones, there may be an unknown Bluetooth receiver within range that is pairing with your SpinBase instead. Make sure any unintended Bluetooth recivers are turned off and try again.
