Shure VP64A Omnidirectional Handheld Microphone
INTRODUCTION
An omnidirectional handheld dynamic microphone with high output like the VP64A is made for professional audio and video production. It blends a handsome on-camera appearance with great performance and comfort. The 200 mm (7-7/8 inch) long VP64A, which may be used both inside and outside, is perfect for close-up work. Critical microphone location is not necessary because of the uniform pickup provided by the omnidirectional pickup pattern, which works on or off-axis. A customized frequency response with an upper midrange presence rise is another element of the VP64A series that enhances the crispness and clarity of speech. Neodymium magnets are used in the cartridge to boost output and the signal-to-noise ratio. The microphone cartridge is protected by an internal rubber isolation mount, which also reduces handling noise.

GENERAL
The VP64A and VP64AL are high-output omnidirectional handheld dynamic microphones designed for professional audio and video production. They combine exceptional performance and comfortable feel with a handsome on-camera appearance.
The VP64A and VP64AL are identical except for handle length. The 200 mm (7-7/8 inch) long VP64A is ideal for closeup use and can be used outside as well as indoors. The VP64AL is well-suited to location interviews, sports broadcasting, and other situations where the 244 mm (9-5/8 inch) length is an advantage.
The omnidirectional pickup pattern provides uniform pick-up on or off axis, eliminating the need for critical microphone positioning. The VP64A microphones also feature a tailored frequency response with an upper midrange presence rise that adds crispness and clarity to speech. The cartridge utilizes a neodymium magnet for higher output and increased signal-to-noise ratio.
An internal rubber isolation mount protects the micro-phone cartridge and minimizes handling noise. A water-resistant mesh grille allows the microphone to be used during the most challenging weather conditions. The supplied windscreen further reduces “pop” and wind noise.

FAQs
would this mic be good to use for trios and quartets in a church setting?
Yes.
can you use this with DSLRs?
Depending on your DSLR, mine records in stereo, you can purchase a stereo converter.
My suggestion is split the audio using a separate recording device like Tascam dr-40
the sound quality is amazing and for video recording the best way to combine and produce a good video.
We have an amplifier that uses a 203.6MHz frequency. Is it possible to set the frequency of this microphone to the same?
The Mic is not wireless, so there are no frequency settings available.
Can you use on mixer?
If you have audio mixer and microphone cable , yes.
What is the range of the microphone? How far away from the front of the mike will it pick up good sound?
It depends on your definition of “good sound”. I wouldn’t use this any more than 12″ from the person’s mouth. Even at 12″ you are losing some of the voice to background sounds. It’s no different than other omni-directional mics. They are more forgiving than uni-directional mics, but if you are trying to get further from your subject then you really need to be looking at decent shotgun mics. The main advantage of this type of mic is that you can position it about midway between you and your subject and not need to keep moving it quite so much when each is talking. These also pick up the ambient sounds in a non-distracting way that actually adds to the interview making it more natural.
Will this microphone work with a Nikon d5600?
Yes, provided you have the right cable and connectors on both ends.
I am thinking about buy this mic to use on a stand for wedding ceremonies on low wind days. Will this work well to pick up the officiant and couple?
If the microphone is directed toward each speaker while they are speaking it will work well. It isn’t a shotgun mic so it will need to be 4-6 inches away from the speaker at most.
Does this microphone work with Karaoke system?
Any microphone should work with a karaoke system, as long as you have an appropriate cable. Honestly, I wouldn’t use this mic. Use something like the Shure SM58.
Any specs and connections this mic uses? does it use a phantom power supply ? does it connect by USB ? want to use it connected to my laptop.
The connection is an XLR plug. It is a dynamic mic so needs no power. You’d have to have an adapter to go into a USB jack. It’s a decent mic for the money. I used to use them working for the networks and especially on MTV with Lectrosonic wireless plugged onto it.
Can I use this to interview people with my iPhone and an XLR to 3.5mm TRS cable?
I agree with Rob. But it depends on the audio level needed into your iPhone. I use the same mic with a camcorder designed for XLR. You may want to consider a different omni mic with the 3.5″ plug or a 1/4 inch plug with an adapter, but these are not designed for TRS (3 wire), but just tr (2 wire) cables.
Can I use this outside on the street like street talk (with lots of noise on the background like construction and cars passing by)??
This microphone is an omnidirectional microphone, meaning that it picks up equally in all directions. If you are in a noisy environment, you should have the microphone as close as possible to the person you are interviewing to prevent a lot of background noise from getting in to your recording.
Would this work with a Sony DCR vx-2100? I’m looking for a microphone that I could use with this camera for a project I’m launching.
Not sure about device compatibility. I do know that my daughter uses it for professional video production to include street work (city noise) and said it’s fantastic.
Can this mic be connected to a boom?
To be honest, I’m not sure how it would handle a boom. I purchased mine as a desk mike for Skype conferences. It works great for that application and I don’t see why it wouldn’t work well connected to a boom, depending on the ambient noise levels.
How well would this work to record audio in a small classroom? I would like to have one primary speaker, with the audience being audible for questions
I think the range on this might be limited for what you’re looking for. I’ve used MXL table-top mics like these https://www.amazon.com/MXL-AC404-USB-Conference-Microphone/dp/B001TGTDFM/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=MXL+table+top&qid=1621440791&s=musical-instruments&sr=1-2
Does this mike require phantom power from the mixer? Does it come with a threaded mike clip?
This is a dynamic microphone so it does not require phantom power, it includes the standard Shure threaded microphone clip and pouch.
