SES-AUD-N-HDMI4K Audio Inserter
Replace existing audio in an HMDI signal with stereo analog or multichannel digital audio using the Sescom SES-AUD-N-HDMI4K audio inserter. This Sescom audio inserter provides full 4Kx2K and 3D support for full resolution video. For playback of 4K×2K/3D HDMI source signals, a 4K×2K/3D capable display and high speed HDMI cables are required. NOTE: You may pass existing audio from the HDMI source or replace the audio using the analog or optical input. However, this device will not simultaneously “mix” or combine more than one audio source.

TOP PANEL

In short, a Toslink cable is a digital audio cable (optical fiber) that transmits audio signals through light pulses instead of electricity. Toslink cables send digital audio input and output between components. They are the best alternatives to a coaxial or HDMI connection.
The official term for optical audio cable is “Toslink,” short for Toshiba Link. Developed in the early ’80s to connect their CD players to their receivers, it was a red laser optical version of the Sony/Phillips “Digital Interconnect Format” aka S/PDIF standard.
TOSLINK cables are designed to handle lossless stereo audio and multi-channel surround sound, such as DTS 5.1 or Dolby Digital
The standard specifies multiple interconnection types with RCA coaxial cables and optical TOSLINK being two most popular. Commonly in audio manuals, it is commonly noted that the optical TOSLINK provides a superior connection due to the superior aspects of optical cables in general.
So, in this case, you should make sure your TV has an optical audio output and your amplifier has an available stereo analog input. However, you can use an optical to stereo analog converter to connect any optical audio output to a stereo analog input.
Both HDMI and optical pass digital audio from one device to another. Both are better than analog (the red and white cables). Both can pass multi-channel audio, like Dolby Digital.
Although optical is a fine connection for older systems where it’s the only connection option, HDMI offers a much greater array of audio technology support, leading to better quality audio for watching modern and remastered content.

Toslink fans claim said cable is more accurate because it relies on light transmission, which has less resistance and is usually more affordable. Coax supporters argue their cable is better protected with its thicker jacket and offers a tighter connection.
The biggest difference is that HDMI can pass higher-resolution audio, including the formats found on Blu-ray: Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio. These formats can’t get transmitted across optical. In terms of simplicity, HDMI also passes video signals.
