The HugLock is a child-resistant door lock designed specifically for interior doors such as pantries, closets, bathrooms and bedrooms. However, the HugLock is a convenience device to limit a child’s access to certain areas, not a substitute for adult supervision and is not intended to be a primary safety device.

How the HugLock Works
- The HugLock fits over the edge of an interior door.
- When the door is closed, the latch engages with the door jamb and prevents the door from opening.

Step 1: Select the interior door you want to secure and determine the location of the HugLock on the door
Step 2: Push the HugLock over the edge of the door

When the door is closed, the latch automatically engages with the existing door jamb and prevents the door from opening.

To open the door from the latch side of the door, press the latch to disengage it from the door jamb.
To open the door from the opposite side, move the release slider away from the edge of the door.
Using the Disable Switch
The disable switch secures the latch in a retracted position. This prevents the latch from engaging the door jamb and locking the door.
To engage the disable switch:
- Push the latch back into latch body.
- Push the disable switch toward the latch. The latch is now secured in its retracted position and will not lock the door.
To release the latch, move the disable switch downward. The latch will then fully extend.

Compatible Door Geometry
- Door Thickness: The HugLock is designed to fit around standard interior doors that are 1 ⅜” (35 mm) thick.
- Door Gap: To ensure the door closes properly with the HugLock installed, there must be a gap of at least 0.05 (1.2 mm) between the door and the door frame.
Compatible Trim – Door Jambs
- The HugLock is designed to grip door jamb that is thinner than ½” (12.5 mm) and less than 1½” (38 mm) deep.
- The HugLock is compatible with a wide range of trim, including square trim (A), profiled trims (B, C) and rounded trim (D).
Door Gaps
There must be a gap of at least 0.05 (1.2 mm) between the door and the door frame. Depending on how your door is installed and the age of your home, your doors can have varying gaps between the frame and the door. If the Door doesn’t close with the Huglock in one location, try moving it to another location around the door.
HugLock Fit
Be sure there is no space between the bracket and the edge of the door. The bracket should tightly hug the edge of the door. If there is a gap, it can prevent the door from closing.

The HugLock is for managing a child’s access within the home for convenience, not as a primary safety device.

- Stairs: Should be supplemented with safety gates or other devices. Outdoor Areas: Requires additional locks and alarms for doors leading to pools or streets.
- Kitchens: Needs other safety devices and supervision to protect against sharp objects, hot surfaces, and other hazards.
